totally agree with you on the "essenstials" collections overall....they are the best compilations available, always great value for money, 2cds generally, and usually do contain the artists definitive tracks...good as an intro to the artist

Hard to find music like this in the modern era. Time warp back to the 70's soul/funk period.
And Ms. Wright does go back that far. First record was in 1968. Luckily for lovers of this
music, she forgot to progress. Don't have anything else by her and not even familiar with her
previous work. With 17 albums, that's too much catch up for me. This is her first release in 10
years and what a comeback. Didn't sell that well at #197 on the chart, but with todays
audience, that's no surprise. She tried to spice it up a little with some featured artists, but
even the rappers (Snoop Dog, Lil Wayne) couldn't screw this up. Ms. Wright has an unbelievable
octave range, from Pearl Baily to Minnie Riperton, highlighted by what wiki calls a whistle
register. Never heard of that before, but it's a good decription of the notes she can hit. No
idea where the title "The Movie" comes from, there is none.Love three tracks and like the rest,
for a very nice score.

listened to your favourite track MH...not bad at all, some good solid funky beats happening there,found myself bopping away to it, "**" on a first listen.
im also assuming that The Roots is the same guys who are jimmy Fallon's studio band,sounds like what they would do.??

KANYE WEST "my beautiful dark twisted fantasy" cd,2010.
im not a big fan of the hip hop genre, but this one was recommended to me by our long lost friend and brother Tiggi...i happended to mention to him in a PM that i liked one of the tracks off this one(not sure which single it was) and he said 'its a bloody good album'...
this is not your usual skanky,trailer trash hip hop album, its bloody good IMO, lots of real music happening as opposed to those 'beats' that are the norm with this type of music, quite a few lush strings and orchestrations also(could be synth stuff but i imagine its all real music)....
even the lyrical content is way more mature than the usual garbage associated with hip hop...
i have heard bits and pieces of Kanye's music outside of this album, and im not comparing it to the great rock albums of all-time, but this one is probably going to down in history as his 'dark side of the moon','sgt.peppers','harvest'...the one that will stand out by him in years/decades to come...
also of interest is that the final two tracks were co=written with Gil Scott-Heron(another artist i am just discovering
great stuff, and probably what more hip hop should be like!

VARIOUS ARTISTS "eminem presents: the re-up" cd,2006.
got this one when first released on the strength of being a huge Eminem fan....
and what a let down,no wait, thats an understatement...what a pile of crap mixed with more crap!
its basically a collection of artists including Eminem who reside as part of the Eminem rap stable of "Shady Records"(his record company)...
i consider Eminem to be the greatest rapper ever(not that i listen to,own or profess to be a hip hop expert)...i do own albums by Public Enemy,D-12,50 Cent,2-Pac,Kanye West,Plan B, Darpht,Bizarre,Dr.Dre,Lil Wayne and maybe one or two others, but i like what i like, and Eminem is the creme of the crop both lyrically,flow-wise and beats wise...no one comes close to his style IMO...
so it just bugs me why he seems to surround himself with second rate rappers, surely its not because he needs to make himself appear better than he is because he is a Rap God in my eyes....
he does rap on several of these tracks, but even they are not up to the standard i expect of someone of his callibre...
as you can imagine this one is full of the usual rap language ie: bit##es,hoes,niggaz,muther-f#ckers,blunts,40s....all the usual trailer park BS...
of the twenty one tracks here, there are only six that make the passing grade and even then some of those are doubtful, they got the extra "*" simply because Eminem appears on them as a "featured" vocalist....
crap is not the word for this one and the longer it remains in the next 'to play pile' the happier i will be...
im not posting links for this pile of rubbish, im sure you guys can imagine what is one it because its the same as every second rapper's music
