Looking Back At Some Classics - CRAZY-HORSE - 29-01-2013 my knowledge of Aaron Neville is quite limited, i have never heard this one before, gave it a go....and its as good as the other half dozen tracks i know "***" i really need to purchase an album or two of his at some point..great old fashioned r+b/soul IMO Looking Back At Some Classics - Music Head - 30-01-2013 #390 - Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Road - 1973 running recap for me - 3's=59, 2's=42, 1's=10 this one - *** from the album: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Written by Elton John, Bernie Taupin Produced by Gus Dudgeon Chart action: #2 US, #6 UK, #1 Canada the players: Elton John – vocals, piano Dee Murray – bass, backing vocal Davey Johnstone – guitar, backing vocal Nigel Olsson – drums, backing vocal Ray Cooper – tambourine Very nice kissoff. Just a brilliant song! Says it was inspired by the Stones Goat's Head Soup. Anybody know what that's about? The title track from Elton's sixth album, recorded in Jamaica, where he and Bernie wrote this while being to scared to leave the motel room. Second single and the title track from Elton's seventh album. Obviously a reference to the Wizard Of Oz film, which is the first film Bernie Taupin claims to have seen. Lyrics for him were in reference to a desire to get back to his roots. I just thought it was a nice kissoff. Lyrics When are you gonna come down When are you going to land I should have stayed on the farm I should have listened to my old man You know you can't hold me forever I didn't sign up with you I'm not a present for your friends to open This boy's too young to be singing the blues So goodbye yellow brick road Where the dogs of society howl You can't plant me in your penthouse I'm going back to my plough Back to the howling old owl in the woods Hunting the horny back toad Oh I've finally decided my future lies Beyond the yellow brick road What do you think you'll do then I bet that'll shoot down your plane It'll take you a couple of vodka and tonics To set you on your feet again Maybe you'll get a replacement There's plenty like me to be found Mongrels who ain't got a penny Sniffing for tidbits like you on the ground Looking Back At Some Classics - Jerome - 30-01-2013 Love the track 'Song Has No Title' from this album, which IMO is SUPERB!!!! http://youtu.be/nZdDxR_IDgk Looking Back At Some Classics - CRAZY-HORSE - 30-01-2013 very good album IMO, full of Elton 'classics' Looking Back At Some Classics - SteveO - 31-01-2013 thumbs up for Goodbye Yellow Brick Road!!!!! Looking Back At Some Classics - Music Head - 31-01-2013 #389 - R.E.M. - Radio Free Europe - 1983 running recap for me - 3's=59, 2's=43, 1's=10 this one - ** from the album: Murmur Written by R.E.M. Produced by Mitch Easter, Don Dixon Chart action: #78 US the players: Bill Berry – percussion, drums, backing vocals, bass guitar, piano Peter Buck – guitar Mike Mills – bass guitar, piano, backing vocals, drums Michael Stipe – vocals Just a good one for me. After reading the lyrics I'm still not sure what he said. The song was first recorded for an indie label, which was then shopped around, finaly getting a signing with IRS Records. It was re-recorded for the new bosses and became the bands debut single for the label. Didn't sell well but the critics were impressed. The band preferred the original version, saying this one was too polished. Not sure if I want to hear the original. Sometimes polish is good. Lyrics Decide yourself if radio's gonna stay Reason: it could polish up the gray Put that, put that, put that up your wall That this isn't Country at all Radio station: decide yourself Keep me out of Country and the word Wheel of fortune's leading us: absurd Push that, push that, push that to the floor That this isn't nothing at all Straight off the boat, where to go Calling out in transit Calling out in transit Radio Free Europe (radio) Decide: defy the media too fast Instead of pushing palaces to fall Put that, put that, put that up your wall That this isn't fortunate at all Radio station: decide yourself We're calling out in transit Calling out in transit Radio Free Europe (radio) Decide yourself: come in on a boat Media's too fast Keep me out of Country and the word Disappointment into us: absurd Straight off the boat, where to go? Calling out in transit Calling out in transit Radio Free Europe Radio Free Europe Calling out in transit Calling out in transit Radio Free Europe Radio Free Europe Looking Back At Some Classics - CRAZY-HORSE - 31-01-2013 "**" from, me also MH,very average for these guys IMO Looking Back At Some Classics - SteveO - 31-01-2013 Except for a few obvious tracks, I was never a huge REM fan...song is ok Looking Back At Some Classics - Music Head - 02-02-2013 #387 - Ray Charles - Hit The Road Jack - 1961 running recap for me - 3's=61, 2's=43, 1's=10 this one - *** from the album: various compilations Written by Percy Mayfield Produced by Sid Feller Chart action: #1 US, #6 UK the players: Ray Charles - piano, vocal Darlene McCrea - backing vocal Margie Hendricks - backing vocal Patricia Lyles - backing vocal Gwendolyn Berry - backing vocal other people playing things Could have used some more verses but still a great song. The Raelettes are up front as much as Ray. Margie Hendricks provides that snarling vocal, plus she provided Ray a son in 1959. He told her to hit the road in 1964. The song first shows up on a greatest hits album, which seems strange. I have a question. Why didn't they change it to Hit The Road Ray? Lyrics (Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.) (Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more.) What you say? (Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.) (Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more.) Woah Woman, oh woman, don't treat me so mean, You're the meanest old woman that I've ever seen. I guess if you said so I'd have to pack my things and go. (That's right) (Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.) (Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more.) What you say? (Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.) (Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more.) Now baby, listen baby, don't ya treat me this-a way Cause I'll be back on my feet some day. (Don't care if you do 'cause it's understood) (you ain't got no money you just ain't no good.) Well, I guess if you say so I'd have to pack my things and go. (That's right) (Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.) (Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more.) What you say? (Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.) (Hit the road Jack and don't you come back no more.) Well (don't you come back no more.) Uh, what you say? (don't you come back no more.) I didn't understand you (don't you come back no more.) You can't mean that (don't you come back no more.) Oh, now baby, please (don't you come back no more.) What you tryin' to do to me? (don't you come back no more.) Oh, don't treat me like that (don't you come back no more.) Looking Back At Some Classics - CRAZY-HORSE - 02-02-2013 hit the road ray, and continue to come back some more..."***" |
