RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 27-03-2025 MONDO ROCK "the greatest" cd 2005 a revisit random pick Aussie pop-rock/blue eyed soul/pop group seemed to fit better in alternative because theres so many genres on here active from the late 70's through to around 1990 compilation spanning their biggest hits here in Australia was never a big fan, i own a couple of album and found them to be fairly weak but their singles were generally pretty decent as a footnote, principle writer/vocalist Ross Wilson has been around since them late 1960s and is about to embark on an Aussie tour for a 'hits tour' spanning his entire career, back to the album, nothing to really dislike on here but little to really get excited about, just a pleasant collection of radio friendly songs. I LIKE THIS ALBUM fav: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 28-03-2025 MY MORNING JACKET "Z" cd 2005 a revisit their fourth of ten, i own nine alt rock, country-rock, indi-pop on here thought i would give a coupleo f their earlier albums a listen after they released a new album just this last week album is still as good as when i first purchased it rating roughly 2.2 I LIKE THIS ALBUM fav: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 28-03-2025 MY MORNING JACKET "my morning jacket" cd 2021 a revisit their nineth of ten, i own nine (the new one is on the way in the mail apparently) really enjoyed "Z" earlier today so i deliberately picked another album by them for this afternoon. psychedelic rock/indi rock and a new genre ive never heard of,,,,"roots rock" decent album very much along the same commercially friendly vibes as the now one released last week called "is" this one comes in around 2.2 which means I LIKE THIS ALBUM one of the singles: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 27-04-2025 FRANK ZAPPA "sheik yerbouti" Spotify listen had never heard a Zappa album before but i was always told he was "on his own wavelength" so i listened to this, his biggest selling album and to answer that question, yes he is on his own wavelength there aint no way this stuff would be released today its about as politically incorrect as you could get im lost for words and it was strange to say the least. linked track sums up the album musically and lyrically I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM if you are not overly familiar with Zappa give it a listen, and if you are familiar with his material is this typical of his style? RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 27-04-2025 TOYAH "prostitute" 1988 Spotify listen: recommended by a friend her eighth studio album i am familiar with her singles from the early to mid 1980s but thats about it have never owned a studio album let alone listened to one so during a chat he said i should give this one a listen, its his favourite of hers after "the changeling" this one is more experimental than her usual sounds, Art Rock/Pop might be an apt description a concept album. concept is about her and her then recent marriage to Robert Fripp and how the UK media intruded into their lives which made her feel like a prostitute for the violation of her private life, intrusions and overall being treated like a piece of meat by the paparazzi. so yes, a good album from a first up listen, i will give it another listen and if i still like it i will put it on the 'to purchase' list as the album gets a reissue later this year I LIKE THIS ALBUM fave from one listen: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 05-05-2025 PAUL WELLER "sonik kicks" cd/vinyl 2012 a revisit his eleventh solo studio album its his "trans" album some voice manipulation, electronic synth album sort of influenced by Kraut Rock from the late 70s and early 80s used to hate this Weller album with a passion but during covid when i listened to it a lot it finally got me i "got it". a very good album would rank around 2.4 at a stretch, which means I LOVE THIS ALBUM love this duet between Weller and his wife Hannah Andrews on this one RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 07-05-2025 DAVID BOWIE "hours" cd 1999 a revisit when in doubt put it in "alternative"... a straightforward album from Bowie on this occasion but still does not seem to fit anywhere in particular the experts call it 'art-pop'... most Bowie fans seem to dislike this album from what ive seen and heard but i think its pretty good I LIKE THIS ALBUM favourite on this occasion is this gorgeous predominantly acoustic track: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 20-05-2025 MEN AT WORK "business as usual" cd/vinyl 1981 a revisit Aussie cover it is like the image above, international is yellow/black same tracklisting though i didnt know where to put this because its new wave/rock/reggae tinged pop and pop-rock so alternative is where it goes (when in doubt, always put it there IMO) superb debut album 4X platinum here and in the US, huge success worldwide debut single, "who can it be now?" is far superior to the worldwide hit "down under" which to be frank, im not keen on not that its a bad song, radio just played and played and played and played and played it for a good decade here and still gets overkilled i guess it did its job in that respect but i dont care for it but apart from that I LOVE THIS ALBUM fav: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 21-05-2025 BJORK "post" cd 1995 from Lynne's cd collection i cant recall ever hearing a Bjork album but i probably have because my daughter was a big fan back in the day anyway, thought i would give her a go (musically speaking so get your minds out of the gutter peeps LOL) this was really bad, i simply dont get her 'arty farty' style at all, im sure she is quite clever at what she does because she has been hugely influential on other artists but not on me i see her as a modern Yoko Ono (even though she is Icelandic, not Japanese) shes just on her own wavelength. at least this album does contain one song which i like, "oh so quiet" and it does have a cool video too but sadly I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM only thing i like: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 22-05-2025 FLORENCE & THE MACHINE "lungs" cd, 2009 a revisit their debut album, best by far IMO album has stood up pretty well since its release and still sounds fairly fresh today I LIKE THIS ALBUM |
