What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 30-07-2012 ![]() BOB DYLAN "another side of bob dylan" cd,1964. another one from the weekend just gone, and my second Dylan in the last week... thought Blood On The Tracks and Infidels were my two favourite Bob albums, but the score says otherwise with this equalling the 'Tracks' album score...go figure??? not really sure whether i prefer the early acoustic Dylan, the 1970s one, early 1980s or the late nineties to now period...guessing i simply love His Bobness whatever he does, and that includes that Xmas album he did a couple of years ago... pretty hard to knock this guy as a poet/writer at any stage of his career...he is without peers IMO, and along with Neil Young, has been described in the latest issue of Rolling Stone magazine as "the most influential writer of the rock era"... I LOVE THIS ALBUM worst track: black crow blues best track: to ramona tracks: 1. all i really want to do *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBO9KKMoCgI&feature=related audio 2. black crow blues ** 3. spanish harlem incident ** 4. chimes of freedom *** 5. i shall be free #10 *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbGefwd20h8 audio 6. to ramona *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Xqk_fjncOI audio 7. motorpsycho nitemare *** 8. my back pages *** 9. i dont believe you *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXsb6Vu5Sfw audio 10.ballad in plain D ** 11.it aint me babe *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zex56FCMLTc audio 3s=8 2s=3 1s=0 rating: 2.7 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 30-07-2012 once again, Bob Dylan, with less than half the tracks on youtube I don't get it What Are You Listening To? - suzy7 - 03-08-2012 Love Brooks and Dunn and Toby Keith. http://youtu.be/Si0azctmJDc http://youtu.be/N44pIQ0fJKA What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 04-08-2012 from my library (cd) ![]() Third album and one of his best for me, with five love tracks, but one clunker to pull the album down to just missing that love mark. Includes his only #1 single with Carole King's You've Got A Friend. That classic got both James and Carole a grammy, James for singing it and Carole for writing it. Both versions are equally superb. This album reached #2 on the Billboard chart, kept from the #1 spot by none other than Kings Tapestry. Carole has quite a few guest spots on here with backing vocals, along with Joni Mitchell. Surprised to see John Hartford playing on Riding On A Railroad. Went with Long Ago And Far Away as my favorite. Would have been You've Got A Friend, but for it not being his song. That clunker is Let Me Ride, which the horns just don't work. The only horns on the album and it breaks up the consistency. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Let Me Ride Best Track - Long Ago And Far Away Long ago a young man sits and plays his waiting game But things are not the same it seems as in such tender dreams Slowly passing sailing ships and Sunday afternoon Like people on the moon I see are things not meant to be Where do those golden rainbows end? Why is this song so sad? Dreaming the dreams I've dreamed my friends Loving the love I love To love is just a word I've heard when things are being said Stories my poor head has told me cannot stand the cold And in between what might have been and what has come to pass A misbegotten guess alas and bits of broken glass Where do the golden rainbows end? And why is this song so sad? Dreaming the dreams I dream my friend Loving the love I love to love to love to love to love 1) Love Has Brought me Around ** 2) You've Got A Friend *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEkIou3WFnM 3) Places In My Past ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZRdtFD9ei8 4) Riding On A Railraod ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKM-y7OXA-s 5) Soldiers ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1Jisn7fvLE 6) Mud Slide Slim *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oPIToDK10w 7) Hey Mister, That's Me Up On The Jukebox *** 8) You Can Close Your Eyes ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkIiaaXUjlE 9) Machine Gun Kelly ** 10) Long Ago And Far Away *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDrxju6iKxE 11) Let Me Ride * 12) Highway Song ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aI7G5M03HU0 3's - 5 2's - 6 1's - 1 Grade - 2.3 allmusic - 2.4 What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 05-08-2012 very good artist, and good to have you back on board posting albums MH, you have been missed!!!!! What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 06-08-2012 from my library (cd) ![]() Was familiar with these guys in name only, until this gift from Major Tim. He and my daughters and dh took a trip to Ireland some years back and came back with this. As close as what we americans would consider traditional Irish music, as you can get. The group was formed in the 60's and is still around, in a different incarnation of course. All of the original members are now deceased. Gained popularity in Europe and the US in the 70's with an appearance on the Ed Sullivan show here. Hey, that was the big time, people. Resurfaced again in to 80's with the help of The Pogues giving them some kudos. Assuming this compilation incudes most of the groups hits. I like traditional Irish music, but it always makes me feel like I should be sitting in a pub somewhere, getting drunk. I don't like to do that. I'd much rather sit at home, getting stoned immaculate. Good music though, coming out as a moderate like. Love 3 tracks and don't like 3. What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 07-08-2012 ![]() JOHNNY PAYCHECK "take this job and shove it" cd,1978. i always laugh when i hear Johnny's name get mentioned...."paycheck"...afterall he did spend time in prison for cheque/checking fraud...LMAO! but that aside, im not a huge JP fan,i find him very second rate infact...he just aint a patch on Cash,Willie,Kris,George or Kenny IMO, but this album is exceptional for his standards IMO, almost every track is brilliant country music that follows the traditional country formula of drinking(which i do not) and losing love(which i have). the title track is a song for all people who are stuck in a job they do not like, similar feel to Cash-man's "Oney". its not the best track on here though, its a tough call but i have to go for a song about acting stupid in a relationship in 'the fool strikes again'. I LOVE THIS ALBUM worst track: colorado kool-aid best track: the fool strikes again tracks: 1. take this job and shove it *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzGoDtmTllg live 2. from cotton to satin *** 3. the spirit of st.louis *** 4. the 4-F blues ** 5. barstool mountain *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QY6b7Gel1c audio 6. georgia in a jug ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuxOCMyO1uQ audio 7. the fool strikes again *** 8. the man from bowling green *** 9. when i had a home to go to *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ff2AeeHfrN4 audio 10.colorado kool-aid ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fof0FeJgjnY audio 3s=7 2s=3 1s=0 rating: 2.7 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 10-08-2012 from my library (cd) ![]() The other of the two JT's that merited both vinyl and cd. My cd's were out of order, and James third was posted before this second release. Roughly the same score as that classic (Mud Slide Slim). This one has my all time JT favorite in Sweet Baby James. Three other love tracks and two bombs with the cover of the traditional Oh Susannah leading the way. The album brought James to the forefront of the folk rock scene with a #3 album and a #3 single with Fire And Rain. And an album of the year grammy nomination, losing out to Simon & Garfunkel. The loss is understandable. Carole King and Randy Meisner both play on the album. It would be the next album that would bring us Taylor's cover of King's You've Got A Friend. It would be a few more albums before he went all pop on me. The good old days are fresh in my mind now after this listen. Allmusic gives it a perfect score. Nothing like pulling an album out to remind you. Leaning towards the bluegrass side with some rock for flavor. First release was 1970 and this is their second. Thought they would have hung it up long ago, only to see they are still performing, with 14 albums to their credit. This is the only one I have. Nothing I can say I loved here and a couple of losers. Sound reminds me of The Band's country stuff with some Earl Scruggs Review for the spice. That would be when Earl's son Randy talked him into doing some rock 'n' roll with Randy and his buds. There I go wandering again. Only song I was familiar with on this album was Bill Monroes Uncle Pen. The rest are group penned. We get a passing score here, but not by much.
