Happy Birthday to the irrepressible Cesar Zuiderwijk who turns 67 today â born in The Hague, Netherlands, in 1948.
He's been the drummer with Golden Earring since 1970, joining the three other founding members. Theyâre still together and still friends! Legends in their native Holland - not so much elsewhere which is a mystery since they made some good music.

Carlos Santana is 68 today. Happy Birthday to him! From that very first appearance at Woodstock, he made a considerable impact and has since reinvented himself a couple of times, experiencing a resurgence in popularity in the latter half of his career. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Santana
Iâve been lucky enough to see him in concert â he and his band were great. A brilliant congas guy, two crazy drummers, stalwart brass section, an incredible keys man. Quite a show it was, and Carlos is the king of cool â super chilled (similar to the setup in the clip below). The most amusing thing was that during the course of the evening, they kept popping in little phrases of very recongnizable yet out of copyright tunes like âThe Good, The Bad and The Uglyâ, and âChim Chimneyâ from Mary Poppins. Hilarious! I got the impression that they were trying to see how many of those they could slip past the audience.

The first time I heard Santana's first record was at my uncle's wedding (2nd marriage--the 1st one [my mother's sister] died). With those rhythms and some excellent hash, I went freaking ballistic--headed for Philly from N. Jersey, I wound up in NYC instead. What a weekend! Thanks for the reminder, Ruby. I prefer his earlier rawer, more elemental material.
