ROCKY BURNETTE "bein' friends(fallin' in love)" b/w "because of you" 1980

son of 1960s heartthrob Johnny Burnette of "youre sixteen" fame...
Rocky's music is pop, but you can hear a country influence in it,especially the "b" side ballad "because of you"...
i mean, this guy is pretty talented IMO so im not sure why he didnt have more success after this one and his debut single "tired of toein' the line"
single peaked at #6 here

JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS "crimson and clover" b/w "oh woe is me" 1982

their follow up to the classic "i love rock and roll", i love this "a" side almost as much as that one...
"b" side is a great piece of 1980s rock and roll also...
its a shame these guys(oops, gals!) didnt go much further chartwise after this single!
single peaked at #6 here....

KERMIT THE FROG "rainbow connection" b/w "i hope that somethingbetter comes along" 1979

dont laugh!!!!!
i was a huge fan of The Muppets back in the day...
i was also surprised that i still liked this single after all these years...
the "a" side is a banjo ballad sung by Kermit The Frog, i have also heard Willie Nelson do this song and i like his version also...
"b" side is a 'bar room' styled song sung by Kermit and Muppet keys player Rowlf The Dog, i like this track also...
single peaked at #14 here back in the day...

THE CHANTOOZIES "with queen(of new orleans)" b/w "the chantoozie shuffle" 1980

Aussie girl band from the early 1980s, pretty sure this was their biggest hit?...
its sort of Bananarama but prior to those gals...single has a similar feel to their "venus" cover
its half decent pop i guess, "b" side is a stupid instrumental...
single reached #4 on our charts back in the day...

MADNESS "it must be love" b/w "shadow on the house" 1981

probably these guys finest moment IMO...
"a" side is a cover of the Labi Safire hit from the early 1970s...i much prefer Madness' version...
"b" side is even better than the "a" side, and its another piano based ballad, self composed by the band...
"b" side should have and could have been an "a" side in its own right...
single was their biggest seller here peaking at #6 here

STEVE WINWOOD "higher love" b/w "and i go" 1986

im a big fan of Spencer Davis Group, but find his solo material to sound too over produced and slick for my liking...
i like a few of his singles(think i only have one or two more) and his "roll with it" album...
this "a" side isnt too bad but its not great neither...
"b" side is rubbish IMO
single peaked at #8 here

FRIDA "i know theres something going on" b/w "threnody" 1982

debut solo single from ex-ABBA red-head Frida...
"a" side is a bit too dance/pop for my liking now...
"b" side is more like an ABBA piano ballad would sound...i like this one!
single did reach #5 here...

M "pop muzik" b/w "m factor" 1979

"a" side is simplistic, catchy.even close to being called early rap IMO...
its a great song from post-punk English music....
"b" side isnt bad, but its not as good as the "a" side...
single reached #1 just about eveywhere, including here

T REX "ride a white swan" b/w "is it love" & "summertime blues" 1970

by far my favourite Bolan "a" side....
"b" side has two tracks, i dont like either of them, worst of which is an Eddie Cochran cover...
was surprised to discover that this single only peaked at #68 here, strange indeed!

KYLIE MINOGUE "loco-motion" b/w "glad to be alive" 1987

debut single release from the so-called "princess of pop"...
its a cover of the old 1960s hit single...i like how its been modernised for the 1980s...
"b" side is pretty good also...
as some history on Kylie...im not a fan really, since 1987 she has released 52 singles, almost all of them have made the UK/AU top10, from her debut up till now, Kylie outsells Madonna both here and in the UK which shows just how popular she is...
this single peaked at #1 here.
