And now for something a little different. Something from South Africa from way back when. You have to know a little of the history behind this song. The main performer, Johnny Clegg, was known as the 'white' Zulu. This is about the 'crossing over' of his friend and collaborator Dudu who was assassinated. http://youtu.be/aBpMHxtZeMA

I have included the lyrics with the translation from Zulu.

Through all the days that eat away
At every breath that I take
Through all the nights I've lain alone
In someone else's dream, awake
All the words in truth we have spoken
That the wind has blown away
It's only you that remains with me
Clear as the light of day

Chorus: o siyeza, o siyeza , sizofika webaba noma
(we are coming, we are coming, we will arrive soon)
O siyeza, o siyeza, siyagudle lomhlaba
(we are coming, we are coming, we are moving across this earth)
Siyawela lapheshaya lulezontaba ezimnyama
(we are crossing over those dark mountains)
Lapha sobheka phansi konke ukhulupheka
(where we will lay down our troubles)

A punch drunk man in a downtown bar
Takes a beating without making a sound
Through swollen eyes he sways and smiles
'cause no one can put him down
Inside of him a boy looks up to his father
For a sign or an approving eye
Oh, it's funny how those once so close and now gone
Can still so affect our lives

I wish I could find a copy of this track in true stereo as opposed to this mono YT crap. (See EvilB's post down below for a better version of this)

An interesting fact - At the height of the band's success in 1988, Michael Jackson had to cancel his show in Lyon, France, as he attracted a smaller audience than Johnny Clegg and Savuka. A newspaper headline in France read "white man singing black music, outsells black man singing white music"

A whiter shade of pale. Remake by Sarah Brightman.

Aaaahhh so much better in stereo - many thanks EB. Much appreciated. It's twenty to 7 in the morning here and I am playing this full ball. The neighbours are just going to have to wake up early today.

WINGS "back to the egg" cd,vinyl...1979

Paul McCartney's nineth studio set since the Beatles split...and possibly close to being my favourite of all his albums!
vinyl copy has twelve tracks plus a couple of non song pieces, cd contains three bonus tracks, the superb "b" side "daytime nightime suffering" whose "a" side was the equally brilliant non album track "goodnoght tonight", plus both sides of his 1979 christmas hit "wonderful christmastime" and "rudolph the red nosed reggae", the latter being a crappy reggae instrumental version of the old standard!
anyway, back to the egg....
probably the heaviest rock album Macca has ever made, also with some of the most beautiful ballads he has ever recorded including the jazzy "babys request", the bluesy ballad "arrow through me", and two superb piano based tracks "after theball/million miles" and "winter rose/love awake"...
theres also two tracks on here credited to Rockestra...."rockestra theme", a very good rocking instrumental" and "so glad to see you here" in which Macca gives his tonsils a real workout....the Rockestra band was made up of wings, plus numerous 'friends' including Dave Gilmour,Pete Townshend,Hank Marvin,John Paul Jones, Ronnie Laine,John Bonham,Kenny Jones amongst others....
all up, a brilliant rock and roll album, and one that Macca himself dismisses as rubbish...also, one that really didnt sell that well or have any big hits off it, but this is as good as McCartney ever got IMO!

I LOVE THIS ALBUM
