I don't know what's worse, Crazy ! The full command of the F word used by some metal artists or the obscenely foolish lyrics of rap ?????...don't get me wrong people ..I am definitely not a prude but it wears thin pretty fast !!!!!

PUBLIC ENEMY "appocolypse '91-the enemy strikes back" cd,1991.

PE's fourth album, and the only one i own....
this stuff is real rap...none of that "ho's,bitche$,niggaz,40s,blunt,mutherfu##er" bullcrap!
just solid rap with intelligent lyrics.
songs contain themes like racism, social divides, politics, alcohol/drug abuse etc...real issues with real statements, fourteen tracks on here, all score a "like" rating, nothing great unfortunately, but obviously nothing bad neither.
as every track gets the same score from me, i'll just be posting a couple of tracks for you aural pleasure!

totally agree SteveO,
thats why im not a big fan of either genre...
actually Eminem was starting to wear thin after Marshall Mathers album...thankfully he started to tone down the language to a moderate level after that...so he's still okay by me

from my library (cd)

Was missing anything by these guys in my library and I had to fix that. This is probably not a very good
representation of the groups output, with only 10 tracks, but it covers the hits I wanted, so it works for me. Peak
period for the group was the early 70's when they had a string of hits. Their first hit was actually in 1961, Every
Beat Of My Heart, included here. Gladys would have been 17 then. The song went #1 r&b and #6 pop. Not a bad start. A
follow up hit resulted in a move to the big leagues with Motown in 1966. Gladys actually suggested to Motown founder
Berry Gordy that he check out a group called The Jackson 5. I had forgotten the group had a hit with I Heard It
Through The Grapevine, which was released as a single a year before the better known Marvin Gaye version. Gayes was
actually recorded earlier but not released. Gladys took it to #1 before Marvin did. Can't mention that without a
shoutout to CCR's brilliant version. Biggest Motown hit was Either One Of Us in 1972 which got the group a Grammy.
Time for another move, to Buddha Records where the group had their biggest hit with Midnight Train To Georgia,
netting yet another Grammy. I always like to sing the Pips part to that one. They were inducted into the R&R Hall Of
Fame in 1996.

Gladys Knight....has to surely be one of the 'forgotten' artists of the 1960s/70s Motown stable, but very good nonetheless IMO,and obviously yours also MH
also,
your favourite track would also be mine here, nice review, and ratings for these tracks mate!

ROCKMELONS "tales of the city" cd,1987 #6 AU

debut set from Sydney-sider Ray Medhurst and Co....
his idea was to put together a soul/r+b outfit but to recruit vocalists as required to compliment each track...from memory there are four vocalists featured here....note to modern groups: you dont need to put "featuring:...." on every track that has a guest artist, Rockmelons didnt!
some real nice soul grooves on this one, includes a couple of covers "jump" Curtis Mayfield, "rhymes" Al Green...Al and Curtis give you an insight into the sort of material featured here..
only one track i dont like....and yes!, it has that stupid word 'boogie' in the title, but thats not the reason i dont like it, it has more to do with the use of a stupid vocorder to alter the vocals!
strange to note that of the nine tracks here, six were released as singles in Australia, and none made the charts, yet the album reached #6???...go figure!
all-up a good album that has stood the test of time pretty well IMO

ALABAMA SHAKES "boys and girls" cd,2012.

without a doubt this one will be in my end of year 'best of' list....sublime IMO
lots and lots of Steve Cropper,Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett sounds going on here, and none of them are forced to create the sound...its all natural, simply and purely a love and feel for the music and lyrics that few artist manage to capture completely...you can hear the pain and angst in these songs, much like Wilson and Otis in their prime, probably Amy and Adele come close with a 'feel' for the songs, but not to the extent of these guys and im pretty sure that the female vocalist with these guys must be a reincarnation of Otis Redding...awesome,awesome stuff!!!!!
