NICK DRAKE "five leaves left" cd,1970.

my first experience listening to Drake was after an interview i saw with Paul Weller...he absolutely idolises Drake, so i thought i'd get this one and see what its all about...
anyway, this British folky from circa 1970/71 is grossly overrated IMO, have two albums, dont like either of them, can only say that i believe he is so reveered because he died young...
sure he has potential but i dont think he got to where i would have liked him to be and to enjoy listening to..
i simple find his songs without tune, melody and his vocals, well, they seem to be like those of an artist 'going through the motions' without feeling the song and/or actually getting his message across...
i dont like this one, infact i do not like a single track off it and dreaded listening to it when it got picked out to play...just glad i wont get to hear this for several years, and by then, who knows?, i may like some of it...
allmusic rates this one a converted 3.0, im at the other end of the scale giving this a score of 1.0...

JOHN WILLIAMSON "chandelier of stars" cd,2005.

Aussie folky/country/environmentalist/human rights/humourous singer, Williamson started way abck in the late 1960s writing songs for other artists including Rolf Harris, then progressed in the early 1970s to recording his own material....some 35 studio albums later and sixty years of life experiences behind him, John released this one in 2005...
nowhere near his best effort IMO, but he is getting on a bit so his best days are truly behind him...
odes on here about Aborigines, their struggles in a 'white world', life in general and love...
track ten includes vocals by one of Australias pioneers of country, Chad Morgan who was around 78 years of age when he laid down vocals on the track...and that track came pretty close to being my favourite one on here, that is until the final track came on...
nothing great on this one,as i said, his best days are behind him as a recording artist, but not a bad album anyway

Recent $7 purchase. Dolly had not been in my cd collection, other than with Porter, prior to this. A very good
compilation. I see there is also a Volume 2 of this, but not sure what is on it (I didn't look, I'm busy typing).
Don't think that volume could possibly match up to this one. Dolly is one of those artists for me, whose albums are
not that great, but when you put them hits all together in one package, there is some very good music. This album
peaked at #20 on the country chart, but considering all of the best of collections preceding it, that seems
respectable. Includes songs from 1970 through 1988. I always gave Dolly hell over her remaking herself as a pop
star, but I have to admit, some of those pop crossover hits got a little better over time. Still don't see what was
so great about 9 To 5, but even it passes. Nothing on this album I did not at least like. A very good representation
of her career for that period.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Why'd You Come In Here Lookin' Like That

Best Track - Old Flames Can't Hold A Candle To You

Downtown tonight, I saw an old friend, someone who
I use to take comfort from long before I met you
I caught a spark from his eyes of forgotten desire
With a word, or a touch, I could have rekindled that fire
Old flames can't hold a candle to you
No one can light up the night like you do
Flickering embers of love
I've known one or two
But old flames can't hold a candle to you

Sometimes at night, I think of old lovers I've known
I remember how holding them helped me not feel so alone
Then I feel you beside me and even their memories are gone
Like stars in the night lost in the sweet light of dawn

Old flames can't hold a candle to you
No one can light up the night like you do
Flickering embers of love
I've known one or two
But old flames can't hold a candle to you
Old flames can't hold a candle to you

Had to search for a pic, sorry. Not much to say about this one. One of those 70's discount bin Pickwick specials. Tracks that were all on other albums. A couple of great ones in Wedding Bells and Holdin' On. Three bad ones, two of those remakes of classic
songs, Corrina Corrina by Ray Peterson and Dream Baby by Roy Orbison. Jerry Lee tortures those. I don't care much
for the boogie woogie Jerry Lee which is what the title cut is. That's the only single I know of off of here. It was
a minor hit on both country and pop. I never could get past the stupid title. Wedding Bells is a Hank Williams
classic which Jery Lee does a fine job on. A very short album here with nine tracks of 2 to 3 minute songs. Pickwick
suckered me again.
