Dallas Taylor died on this day last year. Initially with a band named Clear Light, he is best known as the drummer on CSN’s eponymous debut album, as well as CSN&Y’s Déjà vu (he’s credited on the cover along with Greg Reeves, and up until about a year ago, I’m ashamed to say I could not have named the two of them, despite having seen the cover of the album many, many times! :redfaceSmile and with Stephen Stills and Manassas.

After embracing all the vices of the rock n roll lifestyle, in large doses, at the age of 36 he turned his life around, got sober and clean, and for the remaining thirty years of his life, himself worked as a substance abuse interventionist. In an interview I read, he said that at one point CSN had considered calling themselves The Frozen Noses!! (tongue in cheek for sure, but many a true word, etc., etc.,) He also wrote an autobiographical book titled “Prisoner of Woodstock”.

Whilst he continued to write and record music purely for his own pleasure, he never wanted to re-enter the industry once he'd got on the straight and narrow – his mission was to help people, like himself, who struggle with addictions. Unfortunately, he had already damaged his liver and kidneys to such a degree that he had to have a transplant at one point, and eventually died as a result of other related complications.

The opener from Déjà vu –

Edgar Froese died on this day in 2015 – it’s already been a whole year! Frightening!!

Electronic music pioneer and founder of Tangerine Dream, his output was prolific. Apart from solo albums and soundtracks, TD released over 100 albums. I’ve dipped into the catalogue over a period of time, and own a few albums, some of which are more memorable than others. Love the music of Canyon Dreams which I’ve posted before, and recently got hold of his 1983 album Pinnacles, which I like a lot. It was inspired by The Pinnacles in the Nambung National Park in Western Oz – extraordinary limestone formations. If the photos are anything to go by, it must feel a bit spacey! Wonder if CH has been there??

And every time I think I’ve decided which track to link, I get distracted by another one that I’d forgotten about. Impossible! Settling for “Birdwatchers Dream” from Tyranny of Beauty –

Jackie Wilson - Detroit native died on this day in 1984 at the age of 49, of pneumonia

his death was actually more complicated than that
he collapsed during a live performance of Lonely Teardrops, with a heart attack
then went into a coma
in and out of that state for 10 years before his death

Damn...like the Dolly post with "coat of many colours",
I was going to chastise you if you posted something other than Lonely Teardrops...LMAO!

Wilson Pickett and Otis Redding were my favourite 'rough and ragged' soul singers...
Jackie is my favourite of the 'smooth' R+B guys

all i have of Jackie is this superb 3cd set containing almost seventy tracks called "the titan of soul",
it really is a definitive all encompassing career spanning set, worth every cent I paid for it!
