CGI isn't Aussie-speak, it's movie-speak: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer-generated_imagery Also scumbags have important uses--mayhaps you think he's a used scumbag--you'd have a large segment agreeing. Currently Watching? - Thraak - 06-07-2015 Since I'm currently off work for two+ weeks, I've been taking the time to catch up on the music films/documentaries I've been wanting to watch for ages but just haven't had the time! Watched so far: Patti Smith Smith- Dream Of Life (a wonderful fly-on-the-wall documentary filmed over a 12 year period which follows Patti Smith on tour and gives a deep insight into her music/poetry) [http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xnp2ty_patti-smith-dream-of-life-2009-part-1_music] Blues America (BBC4 documentary focusing on Alan Lomax's and H.C. Spiers vital contributions to both the recording and the careers of the fine musicians to come out of the Delta in the 20s & 30s) Joe Bonamassa- Acoustic At Vienna Opera House (Joe shows his strengths as a live performer and his band which includes Lenny Castro on percussion and the Swede Mats Wester on 'nyckelharpa'. Their version of 'John Henry' is absolutely stunning. 'What Happened, Miss Simone?'- Netflix original documentary on Nina's life and career as a musician. Very well produced but also a sad watch as she had a very abusive and troubled life (abusive husband, persecuted for being black, etc) Jimi Hendrix- The Uncut Story- sky arts documentary on one of the most exciting guitarists ever to walk the planet. Good to see interviews with the ex-band members (dated from 90s) as most are all passed now. The Man Who Discovered Egypt- excellent document of British archaelogist Flinders Petrie (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flinders_Petrie) who made several vital finds including the Merneptah Stele and worked on sites until the age of 86!! Also been watching lots of full set highlights from Glastonbury, I would definitely recommend: The Fall, Patti Smith, GOAT (new psych band from Sweden), Future Islands, Chemical Brothers, Lianne La Havas, Paul Weller (actually good again!), Alt-J, Alvvays, Giant Sand, Sleaford Mods, Spritualized... http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/group/b007r6vx?page=6 Asides from the music, been enjoying a good fast-moving show called 'Search For The Lost Giants' http://www.history.com/shows/search-for-the-lost-giants which follows two archaeologists/brothers on a quest to find evidence of 'giant' humans who lived in ancient times. Fascinating viewing! Currently Watching? - SteveO - 07-07-2015 Thanks for the recommendations Thraak! I am looking forward to this documentary on Netflix towards the end of July. The Wrecking Crew, a group of musicians led by Tommy Tedesco on guitar and Leon Russel on piano! It's amazing how many studio tracks this band played on...superb and accomplished session musicians! Of course we know the history of Tommy and Leon as they have successful solo careers! http://www.wreckingcrewfilm.com/about.php Currently Watching? - jazzboCR - 07-07-2015 Great share, Bro SteveO--that interview was affecting. I can't wait for this to come out on DVD. Currently Watching? - SteveO - 08-07-2015 Thanks for the compliment my friend! Currently Watching? - TechnoKitten - 26-07-2015 Last laps of NASCAR Sprint Cup series 400 at the brickyard from Indianapolis on NBC sports channel Currently Watching? - TechnoKitten - 29-07-2015 At the moment its an old episode of Family Feud with Richard Dawson on Buzzr (an old game show channel our cable company just got). That's ending. Super Password w/Bert Convey is on next. Haven't seen these shows in so many yrs! I also haven't watched game shows in a long time either. Currently Watching? - CRAZY-HORSE - 15-08-2015 ![]() "extremely loud, incredibly close" excellent movie starring Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock and Max Von Sydow.... synopsis: Oskar Schell (Thomas Horn) shares an incredibly close relationship with his father, Thomas Schell (Tom Hanks). Oskar is an extraordinary child who has some very particular social quirks. His list is rather extensive and it's revealed that he was once tested for Asperger's Syndrome. However, Thomas Schell spends a great amount of time with his son and does everything he can to help him overcome his fears. However, on September 11, 2001 as the world changes forever, tragically so does the life of Oskar and his mother, Linda (Sandra Bullock), as Thomas was in the second tower of the World Trade Center when it fell. Linda attempts to move on with life, but Oskar refuses to move forward. A year later, he accidently destroys a blue vase while rummaging through his father's closet and discovers a key in an envelope simply marked "Black". Thomas constantly played games with Oskar and led him on journeys around the city, hiding clues and prizes in the most unexpected places. Oskar is convinced the key is a gift left behind by his father to send him on one last adventure. Determined to find the door the key unlocks, Oskar begins a systematic search of the city, trying to locate the person with the last name "Black" who will be able to help him solve the mystery. Along the way, Oskar becomes acquainted with a man his grandmother has been renting a room to. The man seems to have no name and is simply known as "The Renter" (Max Von Sydow). The Renter is a survivor of WWII and reminds Oskar of his father. The two become unlikely companions and friends as they search the city to unravel the mystery of the key. my rating 4/5 Currently Watching? - Music Head - 20-08-2015 nice clip bad sound though imagine the work these guys had to put in for this young lady's pleasure would like to have seen her face during the performance Currently Watching? - TechnoKitten - 21-08-2015 Watching ID Investigation Discovery channel this morning.
