TRAIN  "a girl, a bottle, a boat"  cd,  2017:

tenth studio set for these alt rockers from California...
not as alt rock as their previous efforts as they've been heading into pop territory
gradually over the last couple of releases...
seems as though the evolution is pretty well complete!
some good stuff on here and some average stuff also...
album gets a low passing grade and its a long way off their best!

the lead off single:

HOODOO GURUS  "blow your cool!"  cd, 1987:

Aussie alt-rockers' third studio set....
I thought I owned seven of their nine albums, I actually own eight, not sure why I didn't get that other one
but it appears that it is currently unavailable on cd for some strange reason?!?!?
a very good collection of tracks here...
its amazing what Wiki can tell you, as I was unaware that The Bangles helped out
with backing vocals on a couple of tracks here...
feel good fun rock and roll album...

cool video for this one also:

TALKING HEADS  " '77 "  cd,  1977:

their debut set...
by coincidence the title is the same as the year of release!...
lots of funk on here...
contains one of their better known tracks, Psycho Killer...
many consider that to be their signature tune, I don't, to me,
that honour is for "once in a lifetime" from the following year...
anyway, a classy affair, yes, they had better songs over the years but
no album was as consistent as this one...

hoodoo gurus  "purity of essence"  cd,  2010:

nineth and final album to date from Dave Faulkner and Co....
theyre still around and tour on an annual basis here, just don't record anymore...
a big album, sixteen tracks...
no experimental work or deviating from their trademark sound on this one, just predictable
Guru sounds...
love almost every track on this one, making it my favourite album of theirs...
only made it to #16 here and no hit singles, so radio played any of it to death...
bonus is a dvd that comes with it containing several live tracks and a band interview...
ive yet to watch it thoug, maybe I should make that my ambition for the week ahead!...

singles from the album:

[Image: 220px-Franz_Ferdinand_-_Right_Thoughts_R...-cover.jpg]

FRANZ FERDINAND  "right thoughts, right words, right action" cd, 2013:

their fourth studio set...
slightly more pop than normal but its still their usual sound...
good solid album from the Scotsmen...
noticed that six of the ten tracks were singles, and all charted in Belgium of all places...!?!
album top 10 n the UK, top 20 in Australia and top 30 in the USA...

my favourite track wasn't one of the six singles...
found a cool live version of my favourite track!:

PSYCHEDELIC FURS  "forever now"  cd,  1982:

fourth album of seven...
I own five....
was never a fan of these guys back in the day,
was more into Clash,Jam, Stranglers, Costello etc...
their brand of new wave has grown steadily on me over the last couple of decades...
a good solid album, no filler...
interesting to see that on Wiki these guys appeared to be more popular in
New Zealand than just about everywhere else including their homeland where they were never
more than a cult band...

from the album:

MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE  "three cheers for sweet revenge"  cd,  2004:

I own several plus a compilation....
good solid band overall...
this one just doesn't gel with me for some reason...
theres nothing really bad on it but it sounds like the Emo bands from back then,
ie: Sum41, Blink182, touches of Good Charlotte also...
I just cant make up my mind about this one

one of the singles:

RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 22-03-2018

[Image: Kinky_%28Hoodoo_Gurus_album%29_cover.jpg]

HOODOO GURU'S  "kinky"  cd,  1991:

the band's fifth of nine studio sets...
I own eight....
their last to go platinum here in their homeland...
another great album of alt rock from Dave Faulkner and Co...
nothing bad on the album, but many I love...
superb stuff IMO...

one of the singles:

RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-03-2018

[Image: 220px-Marilyn_Manson_-_Heaven_Upside_Down.png]

MARILYN MANSON  " heaven upside down"  cd,  2017:

the band's tenth....
I own at least half of them....
not quite as much of the guitar driven metal of their early albums on this one....
album has grown on me considerably since I first heard it back last year...
the subject matter of his/their lyrics hasn't mellowed at all over the years,
but with the repetitive use of  it the shock value has subsided...
all up, another good album from MM.

second single and my favourite off the album:

re listening to some oldies ive previously posted on MD...
the genius that is Roy Wood comes out first up....
founding member of The Move and ELO with Bev Bevan and Jeff Lynne...
left ELO after their first couple of albums as Lynne had different visions than he did...
must have been more to it than that because I hear the orchestrations and melodic tunes
of ELO in his solo stuff and with Wizard...
looking at the old clips, he did go more on the theatrics/make up and glam than ELO...
anyway, a great collection of tunes, half from The Move days and the rest from the 1970s
Wizard and solo years...
if you like ELO you will also like Roy Wood...

could have picked almost any track off the album to post but I chose this one...

and this one in full make up looking like Rob Zombie thirty plus years before Zombie did it:
