that makes him 65 today![/U]
the greatest male vocalist to emerge from Antipodean shores IMO....
although he was born in the UK John grew up in Australia....
he achieved his first Australian #1 in the 1960s with the lighthearted "sadie(the cleaning lady)" and hasn't looked back...
after a couple of chart lapses in the mid 1970s he came back stronger than ever with his powerful ballad renditionof Beatles "help"
which is IMO the greatest Beatle cover I have ever heard(and ive heard hundreds if not thousands of covers of their songs!)...
he also sent several years as lead vocalist with LRB(Little River Band) in the mid 1980s after original vocalist Glenn Shorrock quit the band...
after that Farnham released "whispering jack" which became the biggest selling album in Australian chart history...
he still continues to tour to this day and is currently on tour here with Olivia Newton John....

Roy Bittan was born on this day in 1949. Best known as a member of the E Street Band and as âThe Professorâ, he is Bruce Springsteenâs main keys man, and has been all along; even when Springsteen separated himself from the band, Roy Bittan was the only one he continued to play with, both live and in studio. The prof has played and recorded with innumerable prominent artists â Bowie, Stevie Nicks, Peter Gabriel, Meatloaf, Dire Straits, Jon Bon Jovi, to name some of them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Bittan.
Aside from piano, he is very fond of the accordion and last year saw him release his solo instrumental album Out of the Box â so named because, as he explains, a piano is really a big box, and an accordion is a âsqueeze boxâ, etc., etc. The album is easy listening, not at all big and splashy, and IMHO holds just enough interest, skill and je ne sais quoi, to keep it from sinking into the great wastelands of the banal.

Judith Durham was born on this day in 1943. She came to fame as the lead vocalist of the Australian group, The Seekers, in the 60âs. They were enormously popular in that decade and their melodies seem to have endured. Ms Durham went solo from 1968 and her popularity has remained firmly intact since.

The original Seekers reform here every few years and still sellout the stadiums in Australia....
Their latest tour was cancelled last year because Judith had throat problems, she has recovered now and they're touring here in a few months time....
She has,IMO, one of the most enduring voices in popular music and she still sounds as good as she did some 50yrs ago....

MARC COHN is 56 today. Heavily influenced by Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell and Jackson Browne, he first came to attention with the hit song, âWalking in Memphisâ, winning a Grammy for his eponymous 1991 debut album featuring that song.
He has since released a further four studio albums (and a couple of live ones) that have been quite spread out over the years. The Rainy Season is great listening, and Join the Parade is edging toward the top section of my endless âto purchase listâ! The latter is a reflective album that came about after having been the victim of an attempted carjacking. He was hit in the temple by a bullet; fortunately only a flesh wound â traumatic and cathartic, nonetheless.
