RE: my Dad's vinyl... - CRAZY-HORSE - 29-06-2020 ![]() DEL SHANNON "get down and get me" vinyl, 1982 yeah, not a '60s album but a successful 1960s artist. ive never been a fan of Del, thought he made maybe a handful of good singles but that's about it. this one was produced by his friend Tom Petty. four or five covers on here, the rest originals. a few im okay with but I wouldn't say I like them. I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM side 1: 1. sea of love * 2. life without you * 3. out of time * 4. sucker for your love * 5. to love someone * side 2: 1. drop down and get me * 2. maybe tomorrow * 3. liar * 4. never stop tryin' * 5. midnight train * 3s = 0 2s = 0 1s = 10 rating: 1.0 sounds better live than on the record: RE: my Dad's vinyl... - CRAZY-HORSE - 30-06-2020 BOB SEGER & THE SILVER BULLET BAND "against the wind" vinyl, 1980 had no idea my ol' man owned any Seger or even liked his music. Bob's eleventh, fourth with Silver Bullet Band. was only aware of three of these tracks prior to listening to it. theres rock and theres ballads on here. critics were divided, some hated this album thinking it was a cheap pop/radio friendly album whilst others saw more as a return to his early works. me, yes it is radio friendly but.... I knew a third of these tracks, I knew several others by other artists, and a couple I didn't know at all. im a fan of Gentleman Jim overall, classy artist, would call him more of a crooner than country but either label fits. I LOVE THIS ALBUM side 1: 1. he'll have to go *** 2. four walls ** 3. guilty ** 4. blue boy ** 5. im gettin' better ** 6. the blizzard *** side 2: 1. am I losing you ** 2. Billy Bayou *** 3. JEAN MICHEL JARRE "oxygene" vinyl, 1976 I knew nothing about this album before listening to it other than J-Man's praise for it. couldn't understand why my dad would buy an electro-instrumental album and have it sitting alongside Sex Pistols in his cupboard. an intriguing album for sure. lots of twists and turns in the music, after a while I forgot I was listing to an instrumental as believe it or not, I found the music actually speaking (communicating) with me on a subconscious level. so I re-listened again after a few hours just to make sure what I thought of it. same opinion, good album. I LIKE THIS ALBUM side 1: 1. part I ** 2. part II *** 3. part III ** side 2: 1. part IV *** 2. part V ** 3. part VI ** 3s - 2 2s - 4 1s - 0 rating: 2.3 the single: RE: my Dad's vinyl... - CRAZY-HORSE - 02-07-2020 ![]() NEIL SEDAKA "let's go steady again" vinyl, 1979 a compilation of mostly lesser known tracks with a three or four known hits thrown in for good measure. also contains two live tracks, both covers, Sugar Sugar and Bridge Over Troubled Waters/Danny Boy. hey, its Neil Sedaka, my guilty pleasure so.... I LOVE THIS ALBUM side 1: 1. let's go steady again *** 2. circulate *** 3. "hi-lili hi-lo" is not the Manfred Man song but my favourite is a cover (Merle), not sure about the rest of the album though. an impressive listen to say the least: I LOVE THIS ALBUM side 1: 1. hurtin' for you baby *** 2. im a lonesome fugitive *** 3. born to be a rolling stone *** 4. hi-lili, hi-ho ** 5. poor man's prison *** 6. words and music ** side 2: 1. bird-doggin' *** 2. I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM side 1: 1. what will Mary say ** 2. unaccustomed as I am * 3. sweet Thursday ** 4. there you are * 5. wasn't the summer short ** 6. that's the way it is * side 2: 1. LINDA RONSTADT "simple dreams" vinyl, 1977 the only thing of Linda that my dad owned... must be the Roy and Buddy covers that were the singles that did it for him. loving well over half this album, im familiar with most of them prior to playing. she made a career out of singing cover versions but i have no problem with anything Linda does. Stevie may well be Jerome's "aural orgasm", mine is Linda. I LOVE THIS ALBUM side 1: 1. its so easy *** 2. Carmelita *** 3. simple man, simple dream *** 4. sorrow lives here ** 5. i will never marry ** side 2: 1. blue bayou *** 2. poor, poor pitiful me *** 3. maybe im right ** 4. tumblin' dice *** 5. old paint ** 3s - 6 2s - 4 1s - 0 rating: 2.6 i try to pick songs that arent always an obvious pick with albums but on this occasion i cant help it, its my favourite song of hers, period! |
