my Dad's singles collection.... - jazzboCR - 21-03-2015 CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:GEORGIE FAME & THE BLUE FLAMES "in the meantime" B/W "telegram" 1965 There are several good comps of his early stuff but he had a career resurgence in the '90's. I very much like his '91' CD Cool Cat Blues *--he hooked up with Ben Sidran's German label Go Jazz for some good work, properly showcased. * Available from the Usual Suspect for about $10 USD. [quoted for the comments and marvelous list of co-conspirators]: http://www.amazon.com/Cool-Cat-Blues-Georgie-Fame/product-reviews/B005O4QPW4/ref=cm_cr_dp_see_all_btm?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending And some tunes from it (or near-about): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpib39nWwy8 << On the CD, it's a duet with Boz Skaggs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbSniTedPpg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnrUHSuAYiw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eg3-tQ_Ah-8 << "Moondance" with Van Morrison and Jon Hendricks--it doesn't get much better than this. BTW, the best record company comp DVD you'll get this year is the Go Jazz Allstars, taped on the German TV show Ohne Filter BONUS: Here's a 1/2 hour of one terrific 4tet--Georgie, Ben + Van Morrison and Mose Allison, presented by Jools Holland: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOH8WEqWSHI << You'll thank me for this one. NOTE: This is Thread hijacking--please don't hold that against me. Big shout-out to Bro C-H for the reminder of how much I love Mr. Fame. my Dad's singles collection.... - CRAZY-HORSE - 21-03-2015 No,not at all Jazzy.... Geordies come from the Newcastle/Sunderland area in the Midlands... theyre lovely softly spoken, well mannered people IMO, ive not ever met a bad one yet, and ive met quite a few in my life my Dad's singles collection.... - Jerome - 22-03-2015 I agree CH. I was doing some training in Whitley Bay (near Newcastle) for Intel many moons ago. One of the friendliest group of people I have ever met. Down to earth, funny and helpful people. I was there for about a month and it was great - but bloody cold (well for a boy from Africa anyway). my Dad's singles collection.... - jazzboCR - 22-03-2015 Just from these 2 Posts, I'm glad I took this up. Can't ever know too much about folks from elsewhere... my Dad's singles collection.... - CRAZY-HORSE - 23-03-2015 THE RONETTES "baby i love you" B/W "miss joan & mr.sam" 1963 i love the "A" side of this song and just found out it peaked higher n the UK than in the US, it reached #11 on the UK charts back in the day... "B" side is credited to "the phil spector group", its a jazz instrumental, not my thing but its probably right up Jazzy's alley! here's the Ronettes Wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronettes "baby i love you" *** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBaa-cAJRyI audio link "miss joan & mr.sam" * https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HmusE5GSl0 audio link my Dad's singles collection.... - CRAZY-HORSE - 23-03-2015 LAURIE LONDON "handed down" B/W "sea shells" 1958 Laurie was a child-star back in the day in the UK.... i believe most of his material was either swing/gospel or vaudevillian in nature, this one is similar in vein... i dont like either track here from this apparent "double-A" sided single, and the single failed to chart in the UK "handed down" * https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALliwwTCaog audio link "sea shells" * https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4MJM2WxS_g audio link |
