Happy Birthday to Colin Blunstone who was born on this day in 1945. One of my favourite voices. He was, and lately is, a Zombie. His vocals contributed greatly to the success of the now very famous Odessey and Oracle album; he’s also worked with, amongst others, Alan Parsons, Mike Batt, Steve Hackett, Rod Argent and of course, on his own. He’s still touring and recording and his voice is still in amazing shape.

Anytime I read the words "he's a poet" I turn the page. Sorry but it's a deal-killer.

Dave Grusin turns 81 today. Veteran jazz/classical/crossover pianist and another composer of many fantastic film scores - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Grusin.

Two in particular are of interest to me – On Golden Pond – beautiful soundtrack, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qml75qpmpSs, and The Milagro Beanfield War – a great quirky movie; the soundtrack, as such, was never released for some reason – here’s an excerpt …

Joey Covington was born on this day in 1945. He died in 2013 in a motor vehicle accident. Self-taught drummer, songwriter and humanitarian, he was most famously a member of Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna and Jefferson Starship. He recorded on at least 22 albums (including his solo, Fat Fandango), 16 of which went gold and platinum. Sometimes billed as the singing drummer, he co-wrote the Starship’s multi-platinum, award winning “With Your Love” –

Ian Paice was born on this day in 1948. Drummer for Deep Purple, and the only member of the band to appear on every album they have released. He also did a stint with Whitesnake and Paice Ashton Lord, as well as playing for The Gary Moore Band and doing session work and guest appearances all over the place! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Paice

Stanley Clarke was born on this day in 1951. Jazz/fusion electric bass and double bass player of renown – I don’t remember there ever not being a copy of School Days in the collection (although it's not a favourite :confusedSmile. I prefer the album that came before that - Journey to Love. He also became active in the film/tv industry in the late eighties and has scored plenty of soundtracks. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanley_Clarke

There’s a very cool collaboration on The Rite of Strings, between Stanley Clarke, Al Di Meola and Jean Luc Ponty –
