What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 06-08-2016 its a hard call with U2 IMO.... theyre not quite alternative but at the same time I wouldn't call them a genuine rock band neither.. I do recall that early on in their career when the UK had an "indi" chart in their weekly New Musical Express/Melody Maker music magazines that U2 did feature on those charts week in, week out, year in, year out. If I want reggae I'd rather go for the real deal - Bob Marley and so many other reggae artists who wrote their own songs, intended to be sung to a reggae beat. I have one huge problem with these guys, and its the same problem I have with another Australian act in INXS....and that is, I tend to either love or loathe their tracks from some reason and this one is no different... he really does put 'power and passion' into his delivery of songs (pardon the pun), and when he does, even if you don't agree with him politically, you do believe him whilst he's singing the songs.... as a matter of interest lead vocalist Peter Garrett has just released his first solo album, I posted the single off it on the forum a few weeks ago... he is also in the process of writing his autobiography which im sure will include parts from his decade in Federal politics here which came to an end at the last ederal election a couple of months ago... Midnight Oil are also reforming at the end of this year to possibly record their twelfth album and embark on a national tour... Meg bangs the drums and Jack plays everything else and sings, same formula as their other album.... almost bluesy sound on this one.... I have all their albums, would have picked this one up as my final purchase as I went back through their catalogue to complete the collection... good job I didn't get this one first as i'd probably not have returned to them... two covers on this one..."one more cup of coffee" (Bob Dylan) and a traditional folk song "St James infirmary blues" which is also called "gamblers blues" on some occasions when others have recorded it... terrible album IMO, lack of depth in the songs, his vocals, lyrics, you name it, its just not there... even the tacks I like are scraping the bottom of the barrel...
