What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 08-07-2016 SNOW PATROL "a hundred million suns" cd, 2008 career stats: studio albums..............6 singles.......................28 this album..................#2 UK...#6 AU...#6 NZ...#9 US singles: "take back the city".....................#6 UK...#31 AU...#33 NZ "crack the shutters"...................#43 UK...#61 AU................#111 US "if theres a rocket tie me to it"...#113 UK "the planets bend between us"...no chart action "the lightning strike".................no chart action Irish Alt Rockers' fifth album... I own three from memory and maybe a compilation.... good band.... not great, but consistant enough for me, much like Kings Of Leon/Imagine Dragons/Band Of HOrses/MMJ...consistant quality.... so five singles and not one of them is my favourite track on here, but one of them is my least liked track.... fifth single released from it wasn't even released until 2013 when it was released to promote the best of set from that year...strange indeed IMO... I hear hints of U2, well The Edge's guitar style on some of the songs so his influence was bound to be there as these guys probably grew up idolising U2 being Irish... but at least the influence isn't overbearing because im not a an of Bono and the lads... all up, another good album by this solid band... I LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: take back the city best track: please just take these photos from my hands tracks: 1...I theres a rocket tie me to it ** 2...crack the shutters ** 3...take back the city * 4...lifeboats *** 5...the golden floor *** 6...please just take these photos from my hands *** 7...set down your glass *** 8...the planets bend between us ** 9...engines ** 10,disaster button * 11.the lightning strike ** 3s=4 2s=5 1s=2 rating: 2.2 What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 11-07-2016 THE WHITE STRIPES "white blood cells" cd, 2001 career stats: studio albums........6 singles.................28 this album......................#61 US...#36 AU...#55 UK singles: "hotel yorba".................................#26 UK "fell in love with a girl"...................# 21 UK "dead leaves and the dirty ground"...#25 UK "we're going to be friends"..............no charting action! Jack and Meg's third.... their first to chart in their homeland.... moving away from the pseudo-blues rock sound.... Garage Rock might be what I would call it... they've honed their sound and their quirky lyrics/melody's here.... a pretty good album, and one I don't get mixed feelings about once its finished... cover shows faceless men snapping polaroids, its Jack's offbeat way of a protest that music has become an 'industry' instead of 'art', I don't see it, but its his album and he can do as he pleases.... I LIKE THIS ALBUM: worst track: aluminium best track: hotel yorba LOL....Jools introduces them as 'brother and sister' duo...they were married! tracks: 1...dead leaves and the dirty ground ** 2...hotel yorba *** 3...im finding it harder to be a gentleman ** 4...fell in love with a girl *** 5...expecting ** 6...little room ** 7...the union forever ** 8...the same boy you've always known ** 9...we're going to be friends *** 10.offend in every way ** 11.i think I smell a rat * 12.aluminium * 13.i cant wait ** 14.now mary *** 15.i can learn ** 16.this protector ** 3s=4 2s=10 1s=2 rating: 2.1 What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 20-07-2016 THE JAM "sound affects" cd/vinyl 1980 career stats: studio albums.....6 singles..............19 this album................#2 UK...#2 NZ...#72 US...#39 CAN singles: "start!".........................#1 UK...#50 AU "that entertainment".....#21 UK..#50 AU...#34 NZ Paul Weller and Co's fifth studio album.... long gone are the punk sounds from this band on this one... instead, for the most part, sparse (by their standards) and as melodic as they got.... listen to the lead of single, music is strikingly similar to Beatles' "taxman", im surprised there weren't questions asked at the time????.... the second single, That's Entertainment, was not released as a single in the UK but still charted upon the strength of 'import' sales from Europe, it was the first single only available on import in the UK to make the national charts, it is, still to this day, the biggest selling imported single in the UK, which shows just how big these guys were back in the day in their homeland... album still stand the test of time with me and was a pleasure to hear for the first time in four or five years! I LOVE THIS ALBUM: worst track: music for the last couple best track: man in the corner shop Puts up the closed sign does the man in the corner shop Serves his last and he says goodbye to him He knows it is a hard life But its nice to be your own boss really Walks off home does the last customer He is jealous of the man in the corner shop He is sick of working at the factory Says it must be nice to be your own boss (really) Sells cigars to the boss from the factory He is jealous is the man in the corner shop He is sick of struggling so hard He says- it must be nice to own a factory Go to church do the people from the area All shapes and classes sit and pray together For here they are all one For God created all men equal tracks: 1...pretty green *** 2...Monday *** 3...start! *** 4...but im different now *** 5...set the house ablaze *** 6...that's entertainment *** 7...dreamtime ** 8...man in the corner shop *** 9...music for the last couple * 10.boy about town ** 11.scrape away ** 7s=7 2s=3 1s=1 rating: 2.6 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 23-07-2016 from the cd room freshly opened 2 man/woman project from Connecticut 3rd and best selling to this point about due for one I would think this one, maybe a little to art/pop I do like some of the Talking Heads vibe in the music must be the vocals holding me back the single What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 23-07-2016 I watched the link... Video has an Aqua vibe IMO, glad you liked it barbie! What Are You Listening To? - bob_32_116 - 23-07-2016 Terrible song. "Aqua vibe" is unfair though. NOTHING is as bad as Aqua. Not even Talking Heads. And another thing. How long is this craze for mixing upper and lower case in the group name, dropping vowels, replacing 'S' by '$', etc going to continue before people realise it's no longer clever? It's like the same joke told for the hundredth time. It does, however, serve a purpose. Every single time I have listened to something by an artist with one of those mutilated names, it's been what I consider a piece of shit - which means it's a flag that warns me not to waste my time. What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 23-07-2016 bob_32_116 Wrote:Terrible song. "Aqua vibe" is unfair though. NOTHING is as bad as Aqua. Not even Talking Heads.I'm with you again Bob pisses me off ever time I type in my charts for the week especially with rap and the $ they use for an s what the hell is that? how you supposed to pronounce that? dumb asses hey, lay off my Talking Heads this ain't no party What Are You Listening To? - bob_32_116 - 23-07-2016 Music Head Wrote:hey, lay off my Talking HeadsSorry, I don't think Talking Heads were that bad, I just never understood all the hype. Plus, David Byrne's voice always sounded to me as if he's spruiking carnival rides. What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 24-07-2016 lyrically, they were as clever as Bob Dylan IMO...lot of double meanings, or so obscure you had to make of them what you wanted, especially in the earlier years... musically, I also think they were ahead of the pack, no one sounded like them... I agree, his voice could irritate me at times but I think it suited their style... What Are You Listening To? - bob_32_116 - 29-07-2016 Listening now to a podcast of a program on local community radio: "Golden Apples of the Sun" http://rtrfm.com.au/shows/goldenapples?an_page=2016-07-17 I've mentioned this show before, but this episode is noteworthy because it's all "krautrock".I find it interesting the way this term was invented by the British music press as a slightly dismissive, almost racist, term, and the proponents of the genre have turned this around by taking ownership of the word and given it respectability. |
