A very nice debut album which they were never able to come close to equalling. They tried for
two more albums before they hung it up for 10 years. The comeback was doomed from the start.
Capitol's marketing of this album was a success but it didn't sit well with Beatle's fans. Both
the front and back cover were in your face rip offs from the fab four. This became one of the
best selling debut albums in music history hitting #1 with both the album and the My Sharona
hit. Can't deny the impact of that song. Two other love tracks for me in Good Girls Don't and
Selfish. One I don't care for about some monkey. The album was recorded in two weeks at a cost
of $18,000. With a few million copies sold, I think they got their money's worth.

if you like 'remix' albums StyeveO, you may like the new Gotye remix album...it contains lots of remixes of his "somebody that i used to know" song remixed by ddifferent people, not my thing, but may be yours???

for anyone reading this thinking "oh he's just doing that to get more sales" etc etc, he may well be, but he did the same thing with his debut solo set some years ago also

Over to the old cd's, with the follow up to last weeks Steve Earle selection. That one fit well
into that folk/country forum, but this one has to move him to the rock genre. A Mellencamp kind
of rock comes through on most of this for me. They can both make that transition with ease. A
few country flavored but more rock tracks here. This is the last Steve Earle album I own, not
because he fell out of favor, I just moved on. I'm sure subsequent releases are good albums.
Although the scoring of this one came out equal to the previous, I think I prefer it, due to
it's acoustic format. Three love tracks here and one I don't care for. Although not my
favorite, one of those love tracks is a sweet duet with Lucinda Williams who I like more
evertime I hear her. Shame there's no clip for that. The album hit #106 on the chart here and
#44 in the UK. The title track was a single but did not chart.

Double dipping into the new stack this week with a nice Best Of set. Not a huge fan of these
guys studio albums, but as with a few other groups, when you put just the hits together, it
makes for a nice listen. I was able to squeeze five love tracks out of this twelve song set,
making it just miss a love mark album. Two bombs do it in. Leading those is the terrible cover
of Captain & Tenille's Muskrat Love. At least Toni's voice made it pretty even if it is a
stupid song. Tough call for my favorite with Tim Man taking it over Sister Golden Hair. It says
George Martin had a hand in the producing of this. Not sure how that works as the tracks are
from other albums. Remixing I guess. The album hit #3 on the chart here.
