An excellent blend of country and bluegrass. No they are not the same. Bluegrass is to country, what blues is to
rock. No they are not the same. Ricky Skaggs was raised on bluegrass, then went country. Quite successfuly, though
brief. Ricky has the perfect bluegrass voice. This is his fifth album and his best selling. Went to #1 on the
country chart and #61 on the overall chart. If Billboard had one then, I'm sure it was also #1 on the bluegrass
chart. Yielded two #1 singles in Heartbroke, and I Wouldn't Change You If I Could (my favorite), and a #2 with
You've Got A Lover. The album just misses my love mark. If not for that last track, One Way Rider, a Rodney Crowel
song which I did not care for by him either. Loved four tracks on here. Always had tremendous respect for Ricky's
musical heritage. A breath of fresh air at the time, but alas, one must exhale. Feeling rather philosophical at the
moment. Not sure what it is. I'd better stop now. The clip for my favorite is from a tv taping from just last year.
Looks more like a fat Gandalf than Ricky Skaggs. Still the same beautiful voice though. Now that's country folks.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - One Way Rider

Best Track - I Wouldn't Change You If I Could

I wouldn't change a single thing about you if I could
The way you are just suits me too a tee
A princess in a storybook
A king upon his throne
That's what we are and you belong too me.

Chorus:
I wouldn't change you if I could
I love you as you are
You're all that I would wish for
If I wished upon a star
An angel sent from heaven
You're everything that's good
You're perfect just the way you are
I wouldn't change you if I could.

Your eyes your lips, your tender smile
I'd leave them as they are
And come what may I'd never change a thing
And if I were a potter
And you a piece of clay
The only thing I'd change would be your name.

Chorus:
I wouldn't change you if I could
I love you as you are
You're all that I would wish for
If I wished upon a star
An angel sent from heaven
You're everything that's good
You're perfect just the way you are
I wouldn't change you if I could...

I can always rely on Alan for some straight up country. Fifth album from the legend (he will be). He has taken about every CMA award there is. Not a bad tune on this one. Even the Eddie Cochran Summertime Blues cover works for me, and I'm still stuck on Blue Cheers version. A couple of other covers in Rodney Crowels Song For The Life and the Kendalls Thank God For The Radio. Seven love tracks and like the rest. Those kind of scores are usually reserved for best ofs. Five singles of which four went #1 country. Favorite of mine is not one of them. That goes to Job Description. Album was a #1 here and also in Canada, plus a #5 on the overall chart here. After listening to this one again, I'm convinced I need to fill in the holes in my Alan Jackson collection. Welcome to the list Alan.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - I Don't Even Know Your Name

Best Track - Job Description

Well i know sometimes you find it hard
To understand just what we do out here
Well that bus rolls up at home
And i just disappear

And i sure don't like to leave you
Couldn't stand for you to think that i don't care
So i wrote this job description
Just to tell you what i do when i'm not there

I sleep eighty miles an hour
To the whining of a diesel down the interstate
Dreamin' 'bout my little girls
The easy chair that sits beside the fireplace
Then we shut her down in another town
Shower up and do just what we came to do
Sing for the people
Count the money and the miles back home to you

Well each night i take the stage
With a six-piece band and a guitar in my hand
Singin' songs about my life
All the good times and the bad

Then we say goodbye and we load it up
And head somewhere i've already been
Then i lay down in that double bed alone
And i thank the lord again

I sleep eighty miles an hour
To the whining of a diesel down the interstate
Dreamin' 'bout my little girls
The easy chair that sits beside the fireplace
Then we shut her down in another town
Shower up and do just what we came to do
Sing for the people
Count the money and the miles back home to you

Well i just sing for the people
Count the money and the miles back home to you

Just misses the love mark with his ninth release. Two #1 country singles, a #2 and a #3 with the album a #1 also.
Alan was in full swing, nominated for 10 CMA awards and taking down 5 including the coveted Entertainer Of The Year.
A duet with George Strait on Designated Drinker here, the two gentlemen that were keeping country country at the
time. The one for me has to be Where Were You, Jackson's 9/11 tribute. The pills can't even stop the flow whenever I
hear that one. Ten years later, still chills. The disc includes a live performance of that at the awards show.
Unnecesary for me. Whoopee, a repeat track with an introduction by Vince Gill and applause at the end. Just got the
eyes dried from the first one five tracks earlier and had to go through it again. Didn't rate that track as it's a
repeat, but four love tracks and none I don't like of the twelve, make it a near love album.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Once In A Lifetime Love

Best Track - Where Were You

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day
Out in the yard with your wife and children
Working on some stage in LA
Did you stand there in shock at the site of
That black smoke rising against that blue sky
Did you shout out in anger
In fear for your neighbor
Or did you just sit down and cry

Did you weep for the children
Who lost their dear loved ones
And pray for the ones who don't know
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below

Did you burst out in pride
For the red white and blue
The heroes who died just doing what they do
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer
And look at yourself to what really matters

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day
Teaching a class full of innocent children
Driving down some cold interstate
Did you feel guilty cause you're a survivor
In a crowded room did you feel alone
Did you call up your mother and tell her you love her
Did you dust off that bible at home
Did you open your eyes and hope it never happened
Close your eyes and not go to sleep
Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages
Speak with some stranger on the street
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow
Go out and buy you a gun
Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watching
And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns
Did you go to a church and hold hands with some stranger
Stand in line and give your own blood
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank God you had somebody to love

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love
