Last night I watched the second part of a dramatised series about WWI, The Passing Bells. I miised the first as I do not normally watch this type of thing (dramatised history), but it was good. I liked the part where, after a gas attack and full frontal assault, opposing troops gathered themselves and helped each other recover the bodies of their compatriots from the shell craters. I am not sure of the accuracy, as I know that British troops were machined gunned and took several days to die while entangled in barbed wire. The tactics of Waterloo, added to modern equipment, made for true horrors and the producers may have been over-romanticising the co-operation between opponents (although it was dramatically effective). There was also a scene showing the brutality of hand to hand combat with bayonets. Surprisingly, it was shown at 7:00pm.
