What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 25-01-2013

One of my all time favorites is ITCHYKOO PARK ! ...great band ...Odgens Nut Gone Flake is an excellent album!!!..unfortunately they were overshadowed by the Beatles and Stones...a case of bad timing I guess similar to the Kinks' situation.
CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:[Image: 612143M9QGL._SL500_AA300_.jpg]

THE SMALL FACES "greatest hits" cd,1987.

the 'greatest' band to emerge from the UK in the 1960s IMHO, love these guys better than The Beatles and certainly way better than Stones...
only The Who could match these guys for sheer power and amplified sound back in the day...
predominantly a r+b/blues rock outfit from London, but most people only remember them for their two quieter moments in 'lazy sunday' and 'itchycoo park'..
a couple of covers on here in 'if i were a carpenter'(well, actually i am?), and Tim Hardin's "red balloon", also the haunting ballad 'every little bit hurts', not sure if these guys did this first or Spencer Davis Group beat them to it back in the day...
this one didnt come out as well as i thought it would, and anyway, personally, i'd much rather hear their studio albums than a 'best of' collection anyday!
nevertheless a great time capsule of sorts of the most underrated british act from the mid/late 1960s....
as a small piece of trivia for any trivia buffs here....
vocalist Steve Marriott was approached by a certain Jimmy Page to front a band he was forming,Marriott declined the offer and Robert Plant got the gig with Led Zepplin instead, Marriott eventually left The Small Faces and formed blues rock supergroup Humblepie with a then unknown Peter Frampton on lead guitar, The small Faces then,in return, employed a relatively unknown vocalist from scotland called Rod Stewart to replace Marriott and changed their name to The Faces....

Message from the Broken Record Player Department - yes I am listening to it AGAIN. Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here'. It still stuns me after all these years. Just plain bloody brilliant.

If not for that damn Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum crap. Maybe if the names had been different.
Just didn't fit among the classic lyrics on this one. Up among Bob's best in that category. I
consider this one of his comeback albums. A nice mix of many styles on here, which are the
makings of a true artist. We have rock, rockabilly, folk, country and jazz on this outing. Five
love tracks for me, which should make it a love album, but it just misses, thanks to Dum and
Dee. I need to get over Dum and Dee. Lack of any liner notes is the norm for Dylan, but this
one doesn't even say who's playing in the band. Should have given them some credit. They really
rock out on a few. Best for me is the amazing Mississippi, which was recorded on a different
style by Sheryl Crow before Bob did it. Tough vote for that favorite though, and then there's
those stupid Tweedle guys.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum

What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 26-01-2013

very good album IMO also MH....

hey, both me and my mum have a little joke about 'tweedle dee/dum' every now and then, especially when he releases another album she says 'any great titles like tweedle dee and tweedle dum on that one?", we just cant believe that he would even consider that for a title, its just so 'not Dylan'

oh, by the way, Lonesome Day Blues is my favourite one on here(Bob at his 'modern' best IMO)

Neil Young - After the Goldrush. Heard a choir singing the title track on the radio the other night. Fantastic version. Reminded myself that I have to revisit this one. Love that Tell Me Why track. Birds is another classic.

That opens up a whole new ball of wax, Jerome! I love listening to choir music from time to time!!!!!...I still enjoy watching the acapella choir singing Africa that you posted on MD awhile back!..here's a pretty version of Neil's classic...doesn't Emmylou look great!
