my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 15-10-2013

MINISTRY "i wanted to tell her(full version)" b/w "a walk in the park" & "i wanted to tell her(radio version)" 1983

Uk synth pop outfit here.
this is one of my 12" singles.
"a" side contains the full 7mintue version of the song.
"b" side contains the radio friendly version and the 7" "b" side...
not bad i guess, had its time and place in the New Wave period of British music
single failed to chart here

JET "dirty sweet-ep" 2003

rare 12" single by this Aussie band prior to their becoming famous...
i have the 'original' limited edition pressing of this single which only had a run of 500 copies with each copy numbered, i have #351...
single didnt sell and was deleted pretty quick, but got re-issued once their "get born" debut album was a hit..
this single contains four tracks:
[TABLE]
[TR]
[TD]1. Take It Or Leave It
2. Cold Hard Bitch
3. Move On
4. Rollover DJ

[SIZE=2]these four tracks were later re-recorded for the debut album
i have never played this single and it is still in its original shrink wrap wrapping...

my copy cost me $150 which is probably a middle of the road price for it now, i have seen copies on ebay for up to $250

ELVIS COSTELLO "dont let me be misunderstood" b/w "babys got a brand new hairdo" & "get yourself another fool" 1985

another 12" single...
for some reason this was never released as a normal 7" single, not sure why???
"a" side is a cover of the old Animals hit...
"brand new hairdo" is a self composed track, upbeat rockabilly style would best describe it
"another fool", another cover of an old song...
single failed to chart here...

PUBLIC IMAGE LIMITED "this is not a love song" & "blue water" b/w "this is not a love song(remix)" & "public image" 1983

another 12" single...
"a" side features the brilliant "love song" and the confusing "blue water"
"b" side contains a remix of the hit, and the final track was their first single from 1978/79
single made it to #2 here

PAUL McCARTNEY "no more lonely nights(ballad)" b/w "no more lonely nights(playout)" 1984

two versions of the same song on this single from Macca...
'ballad' version is a piano ballad, love it, one of his greatest songs ever IMO
'playout' version is a disco/dance version of the same song, the lyrics vary slightly from the other version, obviously to fit in with the style of song it is..love this one also.
the ballad version was regarded as the "a' side both here and in the UK, but the dance version was regarded as the "a" side in the US...
not that it mattered much because it reached #6 in the UK,#2 in the US,#11 in Canada and a respectable #9 here
a great tune and certainly up there with his best, and also shows his talent at being able to create two songs from one song....

THE STYLE COUNCIL "life at a top people's health farm" b/w "sweet loving ways" 1988

lots of thumping bass and brass work on the "a' side, very good sarcasm in the lyircs also, but unfortunately, the world's love affair with TSC was over by this stage.
the 12" single has a remix of this song which is superior to this single version.
"b" side is a lovely jazzy/soul love song.
single barely made the top40 in their homeland and failed to chart here.

BILLY JOEL "youre only human" b/w "surprises" 1985

love both sides of this track...
"a" side was written by Joel when looking back on his younger years and remembering a time he wanted to commit suicide when he felt life was worthless...
"b" side is one of my faves off the superb "nylon curtain" album...this track should have been released in its own right back in the day!
single got to #6 here

CULTURE CLUB "victims" b/w "colour by numbers" 1984

CC's best ever song IMO...
a hauntingly beautiful ballad that would have to be in my list of top10 ballads of all time, love it!
"b" side is another ballad, like that one also, was actually the title of the album they released that year but this song missed the final cut...
i have a limited edition picture disc vinyl of this one, pretty sure only a 100 or so were released out here,i happened to get one!
single reached #4 here but should have peaked on top of the charts!

TRIO "da da da i dont love you, you dont love me aha aha aha" b/w "broken hearts for you and me" 1981

German synth group, im assuming theres only three in the band?..title of the "a' side is a bloody mouthful isnt it?
i still like this single, it does get a bit monotonous towards the end of it, but it makes the grade...an annoyingly catchy tune!
"b" side is weird, my forst thought were 'butthole surfers could have done this!", if so then these guys were a couple of decades ahead of themselves.
single reached #4 here!....it sold over 10 million copies worldwide...!!!

TRANSVISION VAMP "i want your love" b/w "sweet thing" & "evolution evie(acoustic)" 1985

alt rock outfit with a grungy felame vocalist...
these guys had a short but explosive career dominating the charts here for fifteen months...
this was their first hit here..."a' side is almost punk-cum-grungy, i like it
"b" side tracks: "sweet thing" is a bit more subdued musically, but generally okay, the second track on the "b' side, i dont like it, im assuming by the "acoustic" thing in the title that there is an electric version of this also...
single peaked at #7 here...
