Cruising Netflix and came across this AMC original series: Hell on Wheels. It's in its 4th season and is a drama about building the US Transcontinental Railroad. Post Civil War, natch, but before the time depicted in most Westerns. Brutal folks in brutal times doing brutal jobs; they mostly tone down the violence however. Serious money splashed out to make this a premier production--even the minor characters are cast well and given good dialogue. Binge-watchable. Shot entirely in the Calgary, Alberta, Canada area http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1699748/?ref_=nv_sr_1 << the comment in the one "User Review" nails it...
This kind of multi-year huge project experience could be translated into any country that's done similar--Canada (natch) but also Australia, South Africa, Russia, anywhere, thus an excellent premise and well-executed.

Thanks for the compliment (that I picked a good show to highlight). Not really a "Spoiler Alert" but as you know, it's wise to not get too invested with any particular character...
Rackin' my brain 24/7 to come up with hip shtuff to say, MH.

You want to put multiple quotes when talking about "true crime"...sexed up and jazzed up beyond belief--they depend on your horrified fascination and willing suspension of disbelief. Not much different when talking about animules--it's all about ratings numbers and "sticky eyeballs". Try watching the visuals with the sound off or maybe some of your fave tracks--DIY vids, you might say...but then again you might not.

SteveO Wrote:Saw Twelve Years a Slave last night ! A brilliant and masterful movie !...scenes are graphic and violent....as a warning !
This and Amistad are horrifying movies about a bestial human activity as practiced in the US. My country did it for 300 years and I'm ashamed of it, even though my peeps came over much later--and 1/2 from Canada. Larger point: Slavery is a human activity that is still practiced in much of Africa--Arabs/Egyptians on Blacks, Blacks on Blacks, etc. Who do you think built the Pyramids? Cairenes or captured enslaved southern Sudanese? I'm just saying these movies are great drama but very anecdotal--not the whole issue at all. Slavery is an intensely complex issue and includes such as the UN denying medical care to large areas, thus "enslaving" big swaths of territory with disease and poverty (Saharan Black Africa is greatly under-served, e.g..) Stuff to keep in the back of your mind as you are swept up in these productions. A sense of perspective should rule...

I understand the severity of slavery! I was merely pointing out the fact that it is a powerful movie...Oscars, leave em or respect em, declared it as the Best Movie last year! I did not intend to insult anyone...I have black friends!
