my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 14-10-2013

CROWDED HOUSE "now we're getting somewhere" b/w "recurring dream" 1986

another single from their debut self titled album...
pretty hard to beat these guys for good melodies and catchy tunes and this one is no exception...
"b" side is a lovely track, just wondering why the song was never released on an album???
single bombed here reaching a chart high of #63

CHEAP TRICK "dont be cruel" b/w "never had a lot to lose" 1988.

not a big fan of these guys in general but i love this cover of the Presley classic.
hell, love this as much as The King's version...
"b" side is a typical CT track which is why i dont like it!
strange having a video for a "b' side, maybe this was released as an "a' side in some other country??
single did peak at #5 here...

ROGER HODGESON "had a dream(radio edit.)" b/w "had a dream(full version)" 1984

ex-Supertramp Hodgeson's solo hit...
"a" side is simply a shortened version of a six minute album track...hate it when they do that to songs, it spoils the whole thing IMO
thus the "a' side is crap but i like the "b' side...
single made it all the way to #21 here

THE STYLE COUNCIL "youre the best thing" b/w "the big boss groove" 1984

love the "a" side soul ballad, love the album version more with the sax though...
"b' side is a funky mess IMO, one of the worst things these guys ever recorded, lyically its good, just the melody, music i hate...
and on the "b" side video(as this was a double-a hit in the uk), the cringe worthy breakdance routine Weller does is beyond description!
single got to #17 here

CAROL HITCHCOCK "get ready" b/w "more than words can say" 1987

i didnt know Carol was an aussie girl until a few minutes ago...
anyway, "a" side is a cover of the old Motown classic by The Temptations, nothing wrong with the modernisation of this song...
it must have been a fad then as Carol shaved her head like Sinead O'Connor, just glad it didnt take off?!?!
"b" side is a ballad, like that one also, i find it bizare that she never had anymore hits anywhere
single made it to #18 here...

ROGER DALTREY "under a raging moon" b/w "move better in the night" 1986

solo single from The Who's lead vocalist...
not great by any means but okay... its typical 1980s synth rock, something i dont like, but i can forgive Daltry...this time!
single failed to chart here and rightfully so!

DEPECHE MODE "its called a heart" b/w "fly on the windscreen" 1985

another DM single, typical DM stuff here, i guess you either like or loathe them, me, i like 'em!
even the "b' side, on this occasion, is pretty good also...
like most of their singles, this one failed to chart here

NATALIE COLE "pink cadillac" b/w "i want to be that woman" 1988

daughter of crooner Nat, this was released prior to the duet with Nat that made her an international star...
"a" side is a cover of a Springsteen track, like The Boss' version, love this version.
"b" side is typical 1980s soul/pop crossover stuff, like that one too...
single peaked at #4 here

THE DUKES OF EARLWOOD "duke of earl" b/w "swept away" 1988

"b" side it a piece of crap, guess these guys were no good when they had to do their own material
single topped out at #9 here

MUNGO JERRY "in the summertime" b/w "mighty man" & "dust pnuemonia blues" 1970

these guys were from Ashford,Kent...same place as Tiggi and Techman...best mention Dani also
this was the first of a handful of hits of theirs in the early 1970s...
sort of a Dave Edmunds sound here mixed with folk and skiffle is probaly the best way to describe it...????
event he "b' sides are pretty good
single did the same thing here as it did in the UK, it reached #1
