NEIL YOUNG & THE INTERNATIONAL HARVESTERS "a treasure" 2011.

the follow up to the dissapointing Le Noise album....
this one is a live album recoeded during his Geffen years, it has a distinct country flavour to it,as opposed to his usually heavy, grungy Crazy Horse live albums, and this is the NY i like to listen to, well actually, i like to listen to NY period!, but his country/folky style is the real Neil Young IMO...im sure he would disagree with that, but whatever...
this album came about during his delving back into his archives for his archival series of album and boxset(a second boxset is on the way apparently), and he found all these recordings from 84-85 that he had forgotten about, thought they sounded good(which they are) and dcided to release them, unfortunately though, there were no cameras on those tours, only audio equipment so Neil personally scoured the net for fan made videos of these songs that he could edit and add the official HD audio to, which he did, thus we end up with a couple of raw fan vid's to compliment the songs, there are several previously unreleased tracks on here, all good....God knows how he managed to keep them from falling into the grubby, greedy hands of David Geffen, but he did and here they are in all their glory...
all up, a fine collection of Neil Young's first real live country album....to fill in the gap between Le Noise and his soon to be released new studio album with Crazy Horse!!!

What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 06-04-2012

from my library (vinyl)

[Image: 220px-John_Denver_Greatest_Hits_Volume_2.jpg]

These songs got so much sadder after he died. Except for the two really country flavored tracks here, just
beautiful love songs and songs about the beauty of life in general. Just realized John is not represented among my
cd collection. Gotta be a great best of set out there. And the list just grows. Only four tracks I don't love out
of these twelve on here. One new song at the time, My Sweet Lady which only made #32. The album itself, #6. Not
that many artists could rate a volume 2, and still be full of great songs. Best for me is Back Home Again which can
bring a tear at the right time. Not really supposed to be that kind of tune, just something about those lyrics
coming home after being away from what you love. Just the softy in me. We lost a great song writer when John
crashed into the Pacific ocean in 1997. Remains were unidentifiable and fingerprints were used to verify that it
was him. Resin stains from his tree hugging days helped in that process.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Welcome To My Morning (Farewell Andromeda)

Best Track - Back Home Again

There’s a storm across the valley, clouds are rollin’ in
The afternoon is heavy on your shoulders
There’s a truck out on the four lane a mile or more away
The whinin’ of his wheels just makes it colder

He’s an hour away from ridin’ on your prayers up in the sky
And ten days on the road are barely gone
There’s a fire softly burnin’, supper’s on the stove
But it’s the light in your eyes that makes him warm

Hey it’s good to be back home again
Sometimes this old farm feels like a long-lost friend
Yes ’n’ hey, it’s good to be back home again

There’s all the news to tell him, how’d you spend your time
What’s the latest thing the neighbors say
And your mother called last Friday, “Sunshine” made her cry
You felt the baby move just yesterday

Hey it’s good to be back home again - yes it is
Sometimes this old farm feels like a long-lost friend
Yes ’n’ hey, it’s good to be back home again

Oh the time that I can lay this tired old body down
Feel your fingers feather soft upon me
The kisses that I live for, the love that lights my way
The happiness that that livin’ with you brings me

It’s the sweetest thing I know of, just spending time with you
It’s the little things that make a house a home
Like a fire softly burnin’ supper on the stove
The light in your eyes that makes me warm

Hey it’s good to be back home again
Sometimes this old farm feels like a long-lost friend
Yes ’n’ hey, it’s good to be back home again

Hey it’s good to be back home again - you know it is
Sometimes this old farm feels like a long-lost friend
Hey, it’s good to be back home again
I said hey it’s good to be back home again

LUCINDA WILLIAMS - West (2007)

Lucinda's album West is her eighth studio release. I am enthralled by her vocals and story telling of American history and culture. Williams is pegged in the country, folk, blues and rock categories as most of her work has bits and pieces of each. In my opinion one of the most underrated contemporary musicians of the day. Also check out her brilliant masterful album Car Wheels on a Gravel Road (1998).

STEVE EARLE "copperhead road" cd,1988.

well, not exactly traditional counrty, nor is it what you'd call modern country, but it is country with a hard edge to it,often bordering on the blues-rock sounds of George Thorogood at times.
this album is very good even if it is written by the devil's right hand(pardon the pun!).
the album opens with the Vietnam-Vet song "copperhead road" and for the most part keeps up the momentum throughout the nine other tracks on offer, nothing bad on offer here from the soon to be drug-clean Earle, just a fine collection of songs...
he played at the recently attended Blues and Roots Festival here in Perth, just him and his acoustic guitar, a fine songsmith to this day IMO!

Don't know if she qualifies as country, but I saw her in the alt country thread. I'm listening to Christina Perri. Just bought her CD. Loving it.

BERNARD FANNING "tea and sympathy" cd,2005.

this is Bernard's debut solo set, and being folky its miles away from the indi rock of Powderfinger...the band he fronts as his dayjob...my favourite Powderfinger track http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIxLJaeaXKw (live)
Powderfinger got their name from the Neil Young song of the same name(no, im not really a fan of them) but i do like this solo outing.
some reasonably good folky songs on here, some extremely catchy, others just tell stories...not a great folk album by any means but nevertheless you have got to give the man credit for venturing out into left field and out of his comfort zone...
only two absolutley classic tracks on here: the sublime "wish you well" and "songbird", apart from one or two others the rest are likeable enoughand the album casually flows like a cool summers breeze through the heat of summer!!!
actually the rating didnt come out as high as i thought it might, but its still in the like range so, so be it!
also, this album was the highest selling album here in Australia in 2005 reaching 5xplatinum sales figures!..and sorry for the lack of links here guys!
