A series carried by Netflix but probably available elsewhere, made 12 years ago: Hack. It's not about your favorite movie director; it's about a Philly police officer busted off the force for corruption and costing him his family, working as a cab driver ("hack" in US slang). He does good things for some sometimes shady folks. Good cast, credible stories, no easy answers. It ran just 2 years: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0320022/?ref_=fn_al_tt_4 << Worth your time.
Personal note: I lived in a Philly suburb but was in the city frequently (not for nefarious purposes; music clubs, etc) but saw these same mean streets, hence the "it's credible" comment.
NB: the music for this show is uniformly excellent; all the tunes are well-chosen from New Real Country or Hard Folk catalogs. Could somebody put together this song list with maybe YouTube references? Would make a good disc or blog post--"The Collected Songs of..."
