BRYAN ADAMS "the best of me:greatest hits" cd,1999.

his biggest hits were of course those ballady love songs, but Adams,was/is at heart, a rocker, tracks like 'summer of 69', 'run to you', 'when youre gone', '18 till i die' and 'the only thing that looks good on me'...are great little rockers that fit in somewhere between The Boss and John Cougar...
"(everything i do) i do it for you" spent something like 12 or 13 weeks on top of the charts here back in the day...i hated it then,probably due to over-exposure, but i love it now...i had the pleasure of meeting Bryan backstage in the mid 1990's..awesome guy IMO, so down to earth,no pretences or arrogance around him whatsoever, and he put on one hell of a gig to boot!
Sting and Rod Stewart appear on "all for love(and one for all)" and Sporty Spice aka Mel C appears on "when youre gone"...probably the only thing of note she did after the demise of Spice Girls.

Bob, you've had almost five years to snap out of this. After this album you get one more chance. I guess this one
was better than the last one, but not by much. Only two love tracks, weak for a Dylan. Two do not like tracks
including On A Night Like This, one of his worst for me. Backed by The Band, which I never thought complimented
Dylan. This was Bob's first #1 album in the states, accomplished long ago in the UK where a #7 was it's best
showing. They toured for this album, which was his first one since '66. Two versions of Forever Young here of which
the faster gets one of my love ratings. Bob did not want to include the slower version on the album but some arm
twisting took place. The little known Dirge has always been my favorite on the album, with Bob on a rare piano
performance. Although the album has gone Gold, after the initial pre-orders had died down, sales slumped
considerably in comparison to previous releases. Could he ever recover? The suspense heightens.

i did this one two or three weeks ago(well,maybe a month ago?!), i loved it giving it 2.6????
absolutely nothing i didnt like and seven i loved????

i cant believe you dont like "on a night like this"...i love that one

i guess i liked that style he set for that one, but then again, i dont own everything so im not really a huge fan like you are, so what do i know?!?...not much by the sounds of it!!! LOL

strange you mention his rare piano outings...he recently did a festival in the UK...spent the entire show on a Baby Grand!!!!...JUDAS!!!!

JOHN FOGERTY "blue moon swamp" cd,1997.

the final Fogerty/CCR album to post on MD since i joined up in July 2010(but who's counting days?!).
and most definately my least favourite Fogerty collection ever, which is strange, im a huge fan but am not keen on this one, yet allmusic rate it a converted 2.7(9/10) and every review on amazon.com gives it one hellof a rap!!!! i dont get it, but obviously other do!
i cant see anything great on this one, and three of the fourteen tracks i simply dont like(a rarity for me with Fogerty albums)
this one is just too laid back for my liking for his music, he just seems uninspiring vocally also...best track for me here is one dedicated to his then new bride in "joy of my life" which pips "walking in a hurricane" for best track...
not really what i'd call a Fogerty album, but hey, he made it, i bought it...he wins!!!!!

The decline continues for me. Had started to lose interest after that Self Portrait debacle. This didn't help. It's
like he started to write without the drugs. No deep lyrics on this one. Nothing I love and four I don't like. Even
the best, If Not For You, is only saved by the bell. Think I prefer Olivias version. And what the hell is that If
Dogs Run Free crap? Critics saw this as an improvement over the last, but at least we got a double album with that
one. Some of the tracks here were recorded before Self Portrait was released and this came out a mere four months
after that one. A lot of piano based tracks here which I don't think fits for Dylan. David Bromberg, Charlie Daniels
and Al Kooper back for the sessions, who I think were all on Self Portrait. Kooper and producer Bob Johston got fed
up with the sessions after Dylan repeatedly changed his mind on everything, what to include, how to sing, lyrics,
music. A quote from Kooper, "When I finished that album I never wanted to speak to him again". Strong words. The
album went #1 in England and #7 here, so the fans hadn't given up yet, me included.

....then over to the weekly pull from the "old cd" stack.
Now we're cooking with bacon. A five album streak for me of mediocre Dylan material, wiped out with a masterpiece. A
clean slate sir Bob, all is forgiven. This back to the story telling Bob. Love six of the ten tracks here and
nothing I don't like. Lily and her cast has always been my favorite. I always preferred the long Dylan tunes. You
can't tell a good story in three minutes. And a good story it is. You feel like you're there watching the scene
unfold. Well I did anyway, both then and now. As expected, another Dylan classic not on youtube, as well as over
half the album. This is Dylans fifteenth album. He and Columbia records mended fences after a short stint with
Asylum records. This album is still regarded as one of his best and comes in at #16 on Rolling Stones greatest
albums of all time list. The single of Tangled Up In Blue only topped out at #31 here, but the album was Dylan's
second to reach #1, also in Canada, and a #4 in the UK and Australia.
