Peter Erskine was born on this day in 1954. A highly accomplished jazz drummer well known for his work with Weather Report, Steely Dan, Diana Krall, Kate Bush, and many more. He also teaches drumming and has authored a couple of books on drum technique.

Edgar Willmar Froese was born on this day in 1945 in East Prussia. It was also D-Day.
Schooled in music and the arts from young age, having shown an aptitude for things visual as well as musical, he went on to become a pioneer in electronic music. He had met Salvador Dali early on, which seems to have made a lasting impression on him, as I am sure is true of anyone who encountered him (Dali, that is - he too being a trailblazer!).
Froese and his ever evolving project, Tangerine Dream produced over 100 studio albums during his lifetime; sadly, he died on 20 January this year at the age of 70.
Iâm familiar with a few of the Tangerine Dream albums but their discography is overwhelmingly to say the least! Of those I have heard, Iâve enjoyed Force Majeure, Hyperborea, Stratosfear, Mars Polaris â but my runaway favourite is probably the soundtrack album, Canyon Dreams - written for a documentary film. Thereâs a really complete sound here IMHO â
