my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 10-10-2013 BILLY IDOL "rebel yell" b/w "crank call" 1984 was never a big fan of the ex-GenerationX vocalist... but i like the "a' side here, song good early 1980s rock and roll with attitude happening, gotta love the Billy 'snear' also... "b" side isnt much chop, like most of his material to me, its simple run of the mill post-punk crap! single did get to #7 here back in the day "rebel yell" ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdphvuyaV_I vevo video "crank call" * http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esQXZHkd9SI audio my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 10-10-2013 BOY GEORGE "no clause 28" b/w "no clause 28 (bests version)" 1988 a protest song taking aim at the Thatcher Government in the UK.. the "clause 28" was legislation she pushed through to ban people promoting anything to do with homosexuality, obviously, George had a problem with this! "b' side is a slightly different mix of the song...i like both... the single failed to chart here, probably because people didnt understand really what he was saying! "no clause 28" ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MI0tZjH06BQ video "no clause 28(beats version)" ** no link available my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 10-10-2013 BILL WYMAN "come back suzanne" b/w "seventeen" 1981 Rolling Stone bassist stepped out to release a couple of singles about this time... synthed up music, cockney accent all add up to a catchy little hit which i actually like, i even like the "b' side, a ballad of sorts(i guess thats what you'd call it???) single made it to #12 here, thats probably where it deserved to peak IMO "come back suzanne" ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sgrxw8PDc9M video "seventeen" ** no link available my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 11-10-2013 BILLY BRAGG "between the wars-ep" 1985 four track politically charged 'ep' from "the big nosed bastard from Barking!"... first track is about 'austerity', the second about 'police brutality', the third about 'english civil war in 1649', the fourth about 'bias in the media'... tracks are very well written, lyrics are probably the most biting pieces of work he ever produced! love these tracks immensely, single was not released here, my copy is an Enlgish import... "between the wars" *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjUA3RU4B8E live "which side are you on?" *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbddqXib814 audio "world turned upside down" *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWRpl2S9iwk audio "it says here" *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWXA8O28fso audio my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 11-10-2013 THE VAPOURS "turning japanese" b/w "here comes the judge" 1981 these guys were true 'one hit wonders'... band were discovered and signed to their label by the then bassist of The Jam, Bruce Foxton... not a lot of people know this but the "A' side is actually about masturbating to a girly magazine(same as The Who's 'pictures of lily')... love the "a' side, brilliant sound to this one, "b' side is a bit more subdued, not as catchy but still pretty good... single got to #1 here, as it did in the UK "turning japanese" *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEmJ-VWPDM4 vevo video "here comes the judge" ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ykLhAnseCU audio my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 11-10-2013 THE BEATLES "No.1 -ep" 1964 four track "ep" containing four tracks from their "with the beatles" album, classic stuff from the guys from when they were still wide-eyed pop stars... "ep" did reach #1 in the UK, but here it could only manage a poor #79, maybe everyone had the album by that stage??? not putting up links for this one, we all know the tracks, and you dont know the Beatles then you probably dont know music! "i saw her standing there" *** "misery" *** "anna(go to him)" *** "chains" *** my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 11-10-2013 THE CLASH "rock the casbah" b/w "long time jerk" 1982 one of rock musics greatest ever singles IMO... punk mixed with reggae and funk, i guess you could call it "funky punk", oh crap!, did i just invent another genre name??? love the "a' side and the video that goes with it!, "b" side is okay, not a great Clash song, but its The Clash so....i like it! single got to #3 here, their biggest hit ever down this way! "rock the casbah" *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJ9r8LMU9bQ vevo video "long time jerk" ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqkZvTclfIQ audio my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 11-10-2013 THE ROLLING STONES "19th nervous breakdown" b/w "as tears go by" 1966 this was classed as a 'double a-sided hit' both here and in the UK... love both sides of this single, the breakdown track is great Stones rock and roll, the tears thing is one of my favourite Stones tracks ever. its alovely slow almost ballad-esque piece of brilliance IMO watch the clips for this one, these guys were actually young once upon a time...LMAO! single did get to #1 in the UK, but could only manage #2 here "19th nervous breakdown" *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zI-iMy0aZM8 tv performance "as tears go by" *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6sfPhYwyAU tv performance my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 11-10-2013 JOHN TRAVOLTA & OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN "youre the one that i want" b/w "alone at a drive-in movie(instrumental)" 1978 brilliant track off the "grease" soundtrack IMO... love the chemistry between these two actors/singers both on record and in the movie... "b" side is an instrumental piece from themovie also, love the sax work on that track, without that i would probably not like it, but hey....i like sax! single made it to #1 all over the world as it did here "youre the one that i want" *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aataTbxlWeM movie clip "alone at a drive-in movie" ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNpNlLbZF_Q audio my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 11-10-2013 DURAN DURAN "save a prayer" b/w "hold back the rain" 1982 "a' side is a slow track from the leaders of the UK 'new romantic' movement, i dont like it much now? "b" side is another piece of DD crap! so all up, i dislike this single nowadays. it only peaked at #56 here, strange because these guys could do no wrong in the charts for three or four years at that time.
