Michael Clarke was born on this day in 1946 in Spokane, Washington. Self-taught drummer and percussionist; he was with The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers and Firefall. He died at the age of 47 from too much partying – liver failure.

A Byrds classic - “Turn! Turn! Turn!” - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4ga_M5Zdn4

And one from Firefall –

Ms. Quatro was actually a first to do something as her bio explains. "Can the can" is also defined (to save time--it means the impossibility of putting one can inside another when they are equal sizes. Makes sense in context of the song.)

Since he didn’t actually get paid for it at the time, the dude on Gerry Rafferty’s “Baker Street” deserves even more recognition for the most famous, yet out of tune (yep that’s what he says) sax break in pop history, don’t you think? Oh wait - he did eventually receive a cheque for £27.50 (which turned out to be of the rubbery persuasion).

The man named for an angel, Raphael Ravenscroft, was born on this day in 1954 – in Stoke on Trent, England. Even if less than profitable immediately, at least the Baker Street thing opened doors – he went on to play with ABBA, Marvin Gaye and Pink Floyd – also Chris Rea, Robert Plant, Hazel O’Connor, Bonnie Tyler, Mike Oldfield, etc., etc. and he continued to play with Gerry Rafferty so it couldn’t have been too terrible.

He died last year, at the age of 60, of a suspected heart attack. RIP.
