CHICAGO "the ultimate chicago" cd,2010.

didnt realise these guys have been around since 1967....thought they were a mid 70s/80s band???...see, you learn something everyday on MD(or as part of MD)
eighteen tracks on this best of set....i just find them to be too 'slick and sickly sweet' for my taste, so very little on here that i can say that i love for that reason!
sure, i like most of the tracks, but i can take or leave these guys, aint gonna lose sleep if i never hear this one again or not!
also, found out that in terms of US chart success(for an American band) that these guys come in second to The Beach Boys on the US Billboard charts.
all-up though, not a bad album, but certainly not as good as i'd expect a career spanning 'hits' album to rate by any artist!

KISS "love gun" cd/vinyl, 1977. #4 US, #13 AU

this is KISS' sixth studio album in a period of four years(add to that two double vinyl live sets), and you have one hell of a prolific output, and in the next two years they released two more, four solo sets and a double best of set....great achievement IMO
sure, i like KISS a lot, great live performers(never missed them on an Aussie tour to date!), also have all their albums to date...and ive found what they consistantly do,album-wise, is always have one maybe two great tracks on an album that counteract with a couple of dud tracks also, and this one is no exception.
only one on here i love(the title track) and two that are simply aweful, but to add to the mix they also have a cover version on here of The Crystals "then he kissed me", retitled "then she kissed me"...which is ok and makes the pass mark for me.
this also happens to be the first KISS album that features lead vocals by all four original members, Ace gets his on 'shock me', Peter on 'hooligan' and Gene and Paul each share duties on four seperate occasions...strangely enough, for the most part Gene's tracks(2,3,8,9) arent to bad even though are they have immature teenage-like lyrics revolving around sex and bits of his anatomy, as do most of the songs he writes and sings...guess that says something about how much he truly loves himself and all things Gene Simmons LOL!
that aside, not a bad album, infact pretty good effort for KISS, who ive always thought of as a great singles band, lousy album makers(overall!)
just an afterthought....
while seeking out the links i found i got chills up my spine watching every track...these guys were never great muso's(except Ace Frehley), but theres something about men in leather and make-up that is electric...well, not all men, just KISS LMAO!

THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM - Handwritten (2012)

Superbly reviewed previously by the Crazy Horse ! Very good no nonsense straight ahead rock reminiscent in some places of The Boss (New Jersey neighbour).
