What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 07-08-2012 It is indeed - I am actually quite enjoying some of this stuff. Busy with 'On the Beach' at present - another one I have not played in years - great to hear this again. Good memories come flooding back. Good memories come flooding back. one of Neil's best albums IMO...Revolution Blues, great track, written about Charlse Manson, BTW, NY did go to the Spahn Ranch and play songs with Manson back in the day, stopped going when all the 'love' talk turned to 'hate'.... by coincidence, only a couple of days to go till the 43rd anniversary(august 9th i believe) of Healter Skelter happening. It's going to be a pretty strange afternoon MH got me into 'random selection' a year and a half ago...i love the surprise of not knowing what is going to be played next, before that i played either Macca,Finn's,NY,Weller, or Cash on a daily basis plus maybe another one...which meant i never got to hear some cds purely because of 'not being in the mood'. Hard to describe - kind of like Enigma but with a more ethnic slant. Some nice tracks but some duds as well. A French duo if I remember correctly. Here's a sample - very indicative of what they do - electronica meets ethnic??!!?? http://youtu.be/ATmBOnMJJkE Like I said, it's going to be a very strange afternoon......... I did not know RB was about CM. You see, you learn something every day. Thx CH. By the way - do you have 'Four Way Street' or 'Daylight Again'? Ha, good one, ok, you can call me SuzyQ. http://youtu.be/1mxaA-bJ35s What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 09-08-2012 ![]() THE BEATLES "beatles for sale" cd,1964. the Fab Four's fourth album in two years, and their second of 1964... they look worn out and worn down on the cover, and jaded at times in some of the songs...well, what do you expect from constant touring and recording! six of the fourteen tracks are covers...the final time they recorded covers for inclusion on albums if my memory serves me correct(unless you count the traditional ditty 'maggie mae' on Let It Be.) strange to note that they released not one single from this in the UK...guess "a hard days night" was still riding high there, but scored a US #1 hit with "eight days a week". pretty hard to pick a best track off this one.. i keep going back to John's "no reply" and "im a loser", but also Paul's whimsical and simplistic "i'll follow the sun"...i guess we'll see what i pick when i post it below??? worst track here for me has to be Paul's cover of Buddy Holly's "words of love" which simply doesnt compare with Texan Bud's original, John does a very very good version of Chuck Berry's 'rock and roll music', but again, how do you do Chuck better than Chuck?, simple answer, you dont, endof story. Thomas The Tank Engine also gets a guernsey here with an old R&B number "honey dont"...sadly for us the Fat Controller(George Martin) allowed him to record it...IMO, he should have stayed in the Shunting Yards away from the microphone LOL! I LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: words of love best track: no reply tracks: 1. no reply *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOOf-kmdBYc audio 2. im a loser *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zk9FvwfdDcg audio 3. baby's in black ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSd3EANnbfk live 4. rock and roll music ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xzrhx2SffE4 live 5. i'll follow the sun *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfO1nbCX0g8 Macca live 6. mr.moonlight ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6STQwYCY2MA audio 7. kansas city/hey hey hey hey! ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14ijT4RVERY live 8. eight days a week *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vs5qsk0pc6Y audio 9. words of love * http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSncW98P5to audio 10.honey dont * http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jCdD8pSODU audio 11.every little thing ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukt5nEEQ5gQ audio 12.i dont want to spoil the party *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1O6gX0FCwpU audio 13.what youre doing ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BAWax0PuJ4 audio 14.everybody's trying to be my baby ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXTZ9oJB2p4 audio 3s=5 2s=7 1s=2 rating: 2.1 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 09-08-2012 ^^ now that's surprising excepting YS, which is a George Martin album, all Beatles get a love from me |
