Nick and his Bad Seeds' seventh album...
this one,IMO, is probably the most accessable album of his for a first time listener...
its upbeat,its catchy and more commercialised than everything he has made,the exception being the "dig lazeruz,dig" album...
the experts call this his "americana" album, i hate that term 'americana'...it gets bandied around willy-nilly nowadays, but i guess to an extent it could fit that mould as theres a bit of blues and rock on here...
only one so-called murder ballad on this one in 'john finn's wife', in which Cave manages to rhyme 'confetti' with 'machete'...LMAO!, really, only Cave could envision that and get away with it.
elsewhere,there is probably the greatest ballad Nick Cave has ever sung in "straight to you" which almost comes across as a real love song,well, as close as you'd expect from Cave anyway!
all-up a brilliant,brilliant album from "the prince of goth".
its just a crying shame Nick Cave really hasnt achieved the commercial success he deserves, but thats probably the way he likes it!

Nick and The Boys' latest album release...
i posted it on the forum as a new release, i didnt like it on that first-up online listen...
i still dont like it, i cannot figure what its all about,theres a distinct lack of melody and his usual themes are gone for the most part...
a lot of the album themes appear to deal with how modern technology has impersonalised society...this is not Cave IMO!
"jubilee street",which is no means a Cave classic, deals with the seedy side of life,its about a hooker,the Russian Mafia who run the London prostitution rackets and ultimately, the hookers untimely death...its very average IMO...yet,
this album managed to become Cave's first #1 album here in Australia, became his highest charting album in the UK,US also, and made it to #1 in nine other countries apparently.
personally,i think its his worst album since his Birthday Party days, but many disagree with me(including my daughter and front man for Lanark(damian) who think its his greatest piece of work, most diehard fans also think it is brilliant and up there with his best material...so im obviously either not seeing the whole picture of this one, or, i am the only one who appears to see it for the piece of crap it is!

"the night they drove old dixie down" is a classic whoever sings it....
you might like this one also....
song was originally a protest song about the australian invlvement in Vietnam, but because the band didnt want to be crucified by the public and the media they turned it into a US Civil War song...Glen Shorrock of Little River Band was a founding member of this band with Brian Cadd, Brian sings this one but Glenn did sing a few of their songs also

No, SteveO, it's actually the end of the song. I'm not sure why it runs to 5:00 when the official version ends at 4:17 (or at least the album version I have does!). Sorry about the confusion!
