Robby Steinhardt of Kansas fame was born on this day in 1950 in Illinois. Rock violinist and viola player, as well as co-lead and sometime lead vocalist for the band up to 1982, and then again from 1997 to 2006.

He shares vocal duty with Steve Walsh on this track, and then there’s his all too brief violin solo …

Happy Birthday to Stevie Nicks, who was born on this day in 1948 in Phoenix, Arizona. At the risk of becoming repetitive, Bella Donna is a favourite of mine, and here she is with a track co-written by Roy Bittan of the E Street band – some nice lyrics “Step into the velvet of the morning …" –

Neil Mullane Finn, OBE, was born on this day in 1958 in Te Awamutu, New Zealand. If anyone has already elaborated extensively on this artist, it would be CRAZY-HORSE! Plenty of information and great reviews on the site - from the Beginner's Guide thread - http://www.music-discussion.com/showthread.php/7893-Crowded-House?highlight=crowded+house

Neil is a prolific songwriter and musician, formerly co-frontman of Split Enz with brother Tim and the now frontman of Crowded House, as well as recording as a solo artist and one of The Finn Brothers. I have the compilation Recurring Dream; the Very Best of Crowded House on which this is the first track – (the harmonies remind me of CSN) …

Leland Bruce ‘Lee’ Sklar was born on this day in 1947, in Wisconsin, USA. At this point, he could quite feasibly be the most well-known and sought after session bass player on the planet (including for endorsements. Having watched one of those though, I must say that seeing him handle that fretless bass is a thing of beauty, advertisement or no.)

He met James Taylor way back when and started playing with him just as Taylor’s career was taking off; his own soon followed a similar trajectory. Mr Sklar has credits on over 2,000 albums and that number continues to rise. The musicians he hasn’t collaborated with probably number fewer than those he has! Lol! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leland_Sklar. And through it all – over 45 years, he’s steadily maintained that trademark beard.

He and three other session musos – Russ Kunkel, Craig Doerge and Danny Kortchmar released three albums together in the seventies under the name of ‘The Section’. Nice fusion stuff - mostly instrumental. They had found themselves playing together for many artists as a group, as well as individually, and were also affectionately referred to as ‘The Mellow Mafia’.

A clip from The Section’s Fork it Over (David Crosby and James Taylor on the credits for vocals – just love the album cover) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThGQw723ivA,

… and where it all began … (more or less - with a bit of poetic licence!)
