This the shuck-and-jive Huckabee you (a foreign national) support? http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/25/opinion/collins-huckabee-spills-the-beans.html
Larger point: if you have a Thread on politics, it won't stay civil long. No way. It's too polarizing, too volatile a subject. For the record: the Democratic Party today is to the right of where the Republicans were 30 years ago...and principally because the Left got weak-willed in supporting positions, not because of the strength of the positions themselves. Are we a better country because of that? Is anybody here?

I don't think we're going to get jazz to vote for Huckabee

Politics - Lovely Linda - 17-01-2015

I've got to register so I can vote for Huckabee unless I change my mind as time goes on and vote for someone else. I really don't see that happening though. I've always liked Huckabee. He just seems more caring and that's what I'm looking for. We need that!! Like CH there still are things I probably won't agree with him on but like CH said we are not going to agree with any candidate on everything. I think this one will be a interesting election if Huckabee does run.

Or any other Republican--they are all in thrall to their more Rabid Right cabalistas or bought-and-sold by corporate interests. Where do us just folks enter into this? They're wrong on science and economics, with no good belief in the future.
I did not bring this subject up; mine's just a response to others.

Note to all: I've been a registered voter since I was allowed to be and have voted in every election since, including school board elections (that's where the rot can start). When somebody says "I've got to register", I say "what ails you?--That you aren't currently registered?" You are entitled to spout--I'm entitled to not take you seriously.

Nothing ails me. I've been involved in Politics most of my life. Only reason I'm not registered is because I did not vote last time cause I felt I had no choice. I didn't like either candidates. Just because I didn't vote last election doesn't mean I don't know what is going on. Believe me I do. I have met Politicians so I have been involved and if someone I feel is not right for America I will not vote for either side just to say I voted.

I very well understand "None of the Above" and have used this option. However registering and actually voting are different things; also most every election has a write-in option so writing in yourself or somebody you think might be effective is just fine and can be an active protest.

I remember being encouraged to always vote, no matter what the party, by a teacher when I was at school, because there were a lot of people in the world who did not have access to democratic elections. There remains a frigheningly long list of countries that are not democracies, in the middle east, far east, Africa and elsewhere. It is the one piece of advice from school that I have always followed.

The problem in the UK is that all of our main political parties are now right wing, and, following the recent 'banking scandal', 'expenses scandal' and 'phone tapping scandal', the politicians have shown themselves to be as corrupt as the day is long. Nevertheless, I have always voted, opting for the lesser of several evils, on the basis that those who do not vote cannot complain.

On a final note, women in the UK died for the vote and it was not achieved until as late as 1928, less than fifty years before I left school.

Politics - Lovely Linda - 19-01-2015

I'm not going to waste my time registering if I have no intent to vote jazz. I also am not going to write in someone I know is not going to win. That is a wasted vote. It's true we have a right to vote but also true we have a right not to vote. I'm not voting for the lesser of two evils. I want to vote for someone I think I may have a chance to trust.

Politics - SteveO - 19-01-2015

I like to meet the candidates face to face! Then I decide who gets my vote. I have never voted for the same party...I have voted for the right wing Conservatives, middle of the road New Democratic Party and left wing Liberals. Canada has three major parties since the NDP broke through and formed the official opposition in the last Federal election. We go to the polls this year in October...should be a very interesting campaign.
