THE POLICE "so lonely" b/w "no time this time" 1978

one of their early singles...
i like the hyped up almost anarchic feel of the chorus linbes here, everything else is predictable Sting, so i dont really like it much now...
"b" side s a piece of crap also, then again ive gone off these guys over the years!
single failed to chart here...

PAUL McCARTNEY "take it away" b/w "i'll give you a ring" 1982

superb "a' side from his classic(almost perfect) "tug of war" album...
upon watching the video you'll see Ringo on drums and George Martin on keys...great stuff, shame George didnt make an appearance, but its obvious why John coundnt be there?!?!
love the "b" side also, typical lighthearted Macca song and one of his best non-album tracks ever IMO
single reached #18 here...

THE STYLE COUNCIL "a paris-ep" 1983

lead off track off this one was "long hot summer", it was released as a single everywhere except in the UK where it was released as a four track 'ep'...
LHS leads this one off, followed by a keyboard/synth instrumental called "party chambers", onthe "b" side is the brilliant "the paris match" piano/accordian balled in which Weller sings in french towards the end, followed by a classical piaino piece called "le depart".
"ep" wasnt released her but made the top5 in the UK...

PAUL McCARTNEY,GERRY MARSDEN,HOLLY JOHNSON & THE CHRISTIANS "ferry 'cross the mersey" 1989

a tribute single for the almost hundred Liverpool Football Club fans who lost their lives during a fire that was caused by a flare during a football game againsy Notts Forest earlier that year, the artists are all Liverpudlians and all monies raised went to charity, they chose the old Gerry & The Pacemakers classic becuase that if also the official theme song for the Liverpool Football Club...
understandably, the single peaked at #1 in the UK, but vould only manage a lowly #45 here...

ADAM ANT "viva le rock" b/w "greta-x" 1985

one of Adam's solo singles...still has the same sound as his Ants material but its a bit more hard with the guitars, making it almost a punk rock sound...
"b' side is rubbish, a complete throwaway, but i like the "a" side, single didnt chart here and from memory it flooped in the UK also...and Adam's brief star was starting to wane!
but that doesnt matter as his videos are stil cool IMO, and not sure why he dropped "the ants", but they appear in the video,as they do in most of his solo material songs...strange??!!

THE NOTTING HILLBILLIES "your own sweet way" b/w "bewildered" 1990

one of Mark Knopfler's first outings since the demise of Dire Straits...
cant really put my finger on which genre this belongs in, its sort of folky, yet slightly country and jazzy sounding, but the whole thing is still unmistakeably Knopfler,
great stuff from one of the best in the business!
single made it to #20 here...

LITTLE RIVER BAND "lonesome loser" b/w "another runaway" 1979

pretty hard to go past LRB for mid to late seventies rock/pop IMO...
another classic single from these guys and pretty hard to knock what they do in general!
love the "a' side and the "b' side is probably the only LRB track i have heard that i dont like!
single got to #19 here...

FALCO "rock me amadeus(u.s remix)" b/w "urban tropical" 1985

already posted the normal release single here...
i bought this one and the other one at the same time asi wasnt sure what the difference was between them and which one got all the airplay, well, as it turns out, i still cant tell the difference, they both sound the same to me, i guess it was a company ploy to get people to purchase it twice, and i got suckered in!
not putting up links here, you can go back through this thread to find it if you choose to!
not sure which single made the charts and which one didnt, again...a record company ploy of deception i suspect!

STEVE WOODS "steal the night" b/w "instrumental version" 1981.

cant find any info on Woods, and cant recall hearing anything else by him,
i suspect he is a crossover artist...
i like the "a" side, its okay, just cant understand why ive never heard anything else...i guess if anyone on MD has any idea who he is then it has got to be MH, in fact, i wouldnt be suprised if he has an album of his LOL!
single failed to chart here!

MADONNA "causing a commotion" b/w "jimmy jimmy" 1987

used to love this one(along with most of her singles), but time really hasnt done much for her music IMO...just an average song now from me!
i like the "b" side, dont love it but i do like it better than the "a" side, has a distinct 1960s girl band feel to it.
single did reach the top10 here, peaking at #7
