What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 21-02-2012 ![]() Her second album from 1992. Stumbled across this one after investigating the Cape Verde Islands as a possible holiday location. This singer originates from the islands, and sings what is known as Morna, which has a Latin feel and is sung in Portuguese. She has a lovely voice which is similar to a more relaxed Edith Piaf. The music is simple, using Piano, acoustic guitars, and some percussion. Don't think I need any more of her albums, but this is delightful. She died in December of last year. RoviMusic 4+/5 stars. What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 23-02-2012 ![]() On the laptop. Released last year. Justin Adams made his name as guitarist in one of Robert Plant's bands, and now has thrown himself into collaborations with African musicians. Juldeh Camara originates from the Gambia in West Africa, and plays some sort of traditional African Fiddle as well as singing. The album is a mix of African music and Rock, with Adams' guitar in fairly fierce mode. Lyrics are in whatever they speak in the Gambia (pick one from nine, it seems). Good album that's a bit different from most African stuff. Onto the Buy List. RoviMusic 4/5 stars. BTW that fiddle thing that Juldeh plays has only one string !! Deliverance comes to mind What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 26-02-2012 from my library (cd) Not a big southern rock guy other than CDB and Skynyrd, and Charlie is actually more country to me. This collection covers all of the hits that I remember, from Uneasy Rider in '73 to A Few More Rednecks in '89. He started as a Nashville session musician playing on albums of two of my idols, Dylan and Cohen, plus producing the Youngbloods album, Elephant Mountain. Started recording on his own in '71, and his first his of Uneasy Rider came with his second album, Honey In The Rock. Went on to form the Charlie Daniels Band whose peak years were the late 70's, with 79's Million Mile Reflections their highest charting album at #1 country and #5 pop. Charlie had an album as recent as 2007 but he's no longer on any music radar screen. Just a blip, a legendary blip, who was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2008. His biggest hit and signature song is The Devil Went Down To Georgia in '78, for which he received a grammy. Awesome live performance clip of that classic at his induction ceremony. A well respected man by his peers. I LOVE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Midnight Wind Best Track - Long Haired Country Boy People say I'm no-good, And crazy as a loon. I get stoned in the morning, I get drunk in the afternoon. Kinda like my old blue tick hound, I like to lay around in the shade, An', I ain't got no money, But I damn sure got it made. 'Cos I ain't askin' nobody for nothin', If I can't get it on my own. If you don't like the way I'm livin', You just leave this long-haired country boy alone. Preacher man talkin' on the TV, He's a-puttin' down the rock 'n' roll. He wants me to send a donation,'Cos he's worried about my soul. He said: "Jesus walked on the water,"And I know that is true, But sometimes I think that preacher man, Would like to do a little walkin', too. But I ain't askin' nobody for nothin', If I can't get it on my own. You don't like the way I'm livin', You just leave this long-haired country boy alone. A poor girl wants to marry, And a rich girl wants to flirt. A rich man goes to college,And a poor man goes to work. A drunkard wants another drink of wine,And a politician wants a vote. I don't want much of nothin' at all,But I will take another toke. 'Cos I ain't askin' nobody for nothin',If I can't get it on my own. If you don't like the way I'm livin', You just leave this long-haired country boy alone. 1) Uneasy Rider *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=952h-AJ3Bcg 2) The South's Gonna Do It Again *** live - Charlie Daniels - South's Gonna Do It Again - YouTube 3) Trudy ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUESvITrvsI 4) Long Haired Country Boy *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjaqrL7Kzj8 5) Midnight Wind ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HswOVLwimTY 6) The Devil Went Down To Georgia *** live - Charlie Daniels Band "Devil Went Down to Georgia" Grand Ole Opry - YouTube 7) Reflections *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTn4K2QC4rc 8) The Legend Of Wooley Swamp ** live - Charlie Daniels Band Legend Of Wooley Swamp - YouTube 9) Carolina (I Remember You) *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTIrY40KVCY 10) In America ** live - Charlie Daniels - Late 1970's - In America - YouTube 11) Still In Saigon ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7phP1hidOHc 12) Drinkin' My Baby Goodbye *** live - Charlie Daniels Band - Drinkin' My Baby Goodbye at Opry - YouTube 13) Cowboy Hat In Dallas ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaGb1qpVHZY 14) Boogie Woogie Fiddle Country Blues ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87vJLF69KTw 15) Simple Man ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBohsCG8emk 16) (What The World Needs Is) A Few More Rednecks ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XluWvWa8pIc 3's - 7 2's - 9 1's - 0 Grade - 2.4 so many albums, so little time |
