Just watched another movie called Red Baron which documents (or at least attempts to) the life of the famous German airman Manfred Von Richthofen. Sadly the sometimes english, sometimes american, sometimes australian, sometimes german accents throughout made it a bit cheap and unprofessional (considering we're talking about what are supposed to be german characters!) & to top it off at the end the producers completely miss out his final crash which is basically the whole basis of the story. I know why they missed it out though.
We all know that Richthofen was pursuing May, the canadian pilot but there was some controversy over who fired the fatal shot. One theory is that Roy Brown who apparantley intervened to try and save his friend from the baron, fired the fatal shot. However, I saw a programme recentley on the Discovery channel where they studied all the various possibilities as there were several anti aircraft gunners on the ground where the Red Baron flew over before his final landing and obviously if he had evaded Brown then they could have been responsible for shooting him down. They even reconstructed the flights and from what I remember came to the conclusion that because of where the bullet had entered Richthofen a theory was suggested that the Australian Snow Evans had fired the fatal shot. The amount of theories available for the Red Baron's death hints at an obvious obsession of people with the issue but I do find the story & documentary very interesting.
