Well every jazz singers are unique in their own ways, where they have not only good temperament to carry forward the songs with extra zeal but got a soothing voice too. Milt Jackson & Gary Burton are inspiring figures.

I know little or nothing of jazz, so I cannot really comment, but I do have one album I play quite a bit - Ramsey Lewis- Them Changes. I inherited this one and initially did not play it much but these days it gets a fair bit of spin. I also bought an album in Italy whilst on holiday - really progressive jazz - called Specula and Gemini by Roberto De Simone & Bruno Tommaso. Have to be in the right frame of mind to listen to this one. Very complex piece of work. This is like Atom Heart Mother on acid!

Tried and in great measure succeeded, in bringing the mainstream pop/R&B audience back to jazz--Cannonball Adderley earlier worked the same vein using different techniques and modes. I feel jazz-rock started from the rock side--fusion started from the jazz side. Looking for comments on this assertion.

When I saw the title "Them Changes" I immediately thought "Buddy Miles? Nah, can't be."
Then I looked up the song on youtube and sure enough it was the Buddy Miles song jazzed up. And it was a-mazing.

As for me, I think the best jazz song has to go to Coltrane's "Psalm." Such power and beauty mixed into one song. Its breathtaking. Probably one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. The entire album, "A Love Supreme," is amazing as well.

Interesting. I don't know a whole lot about jazz, but I always used jazz-rock and fusion interchangeably. How do you distinguish the two?

Another take on one of Sankalp Sharma's good choices--Miles Davis' "So What", this time from the Latin side. Conrad Herwig has been a distinguished trombonist since forever and focuses on Latinizing straight-ahead jazz classics--worth your further research.
