What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 10-05-2012 Today I am going to pull out an old album. Lee Clayton - Naked Child - This guy should have been a lot bigger than he was in terms of popularity. He has a completely unique style and some interesting lyrics as well. A sample or two http://youtu.be/6LxFSo3r3do http://youtu.be/dsanF9wZbn8 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 10-05-2012 boo on the Zep review my favorite of theirs you guys suck What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 10-05-2012 Music Head Wrote:boo on the Zep review guess there's no accounting for taste then eh? LOL...give me Physical Grafitti anytime, anyday What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 10-05-2012 Jerome Wrote:For me Led Zep were always better live. I prefer all the live versions from 'The Song Remains The Same' to any of the pre-recorded versions. Yes, even Stairway to Heaven too! yep, i agree Jerome....ALL great bands are better live IMO What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 10-05-2012 from my library (vinyl) Neil's eighth solo album and up there with his best for me. A nice mix of country and rock. The best of both worlds. Four love tracks and five likes. Would love Homegrown had it had another verse or two. Album was recorded over a 2 1/2 year period and some tracks held in the vault I guess, as an album was released in the previous year. Guest appearances from Emmylou, Linda Rondstadt and Nicolette Larson, plus Crazy Horse members on some tracks. Tough call between Like A Hurricane and Hold Back The Tears as my favorite. Depends on the day I think. Doesn't show any singles charting from here. Thought Like A Hurrican was, but not sure. Maybe I just played the hell out of it. Album reached #21 here, #17 in the U.K. and #16 in the homeland. One track always bugged me on here. The acoustic Will To Love. What the hell is that weird banging/snapping sound that shows up at various times? Pretty cool even though it seems out of place. I LOVE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Bite The Bullet Best Track - Hold Back The Tears Hello, my old friend. It's good to see you smiling. You've been around so long, you must be strong. And single life really has its fine points, Like friends to help you out when things go wrong. Hold back the tears That you've been cryin'. Push off the fears When they come around. Hold back the tears, And keep on trying. Just around the next corner May be waiting your true love. Two lying fools, And then four cryin' eyes, Counting on one another to survive. Crazy love must surely have this pain, If getting up means going down again. Hold back the tears That you've been cryin'. Push off the fears When they come around. Hold back the tears, And keep on trying. Just around the next corner May be waiting your true love. 1) The Old Country Waltz *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uSX0YOiJqU 2) Saddle Up The Palomino *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOZqQTUCiBo 3) Hey Babe ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxxpePEjQaI 4) Hold Back The Tears *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hGL4HtXCb8 5) Bite The Bullet ** 6) Star Of Bethlehem ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrBPJEBL06U 7) Will To Love ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Z4KdVwCvmI 8) Like A Hurricane *** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Obfci1CIqq8 9) Homegrown ** 3's - 4 2's - 5 1's - 0 Grade - 2.4 so many albums, so little time What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 10-05-2012 nice review MH.... same score as my 'beginners guide'. glad you mentioned the weird "will to love"...thats my least favourite on here. a brave call not to put Like A Hurricane as your favourite....blasphemy!!!!!! yes you are correct about the tracks from the vaults comment....nothing newly recorded for this album, just different tracks from the vaults What Are You Listening To? - Mrrusty1 - 10-05-2012 [quote=Music Head]from my library (vinyl) Almost worth it for the cover art alone. Plus the cute little pop up on the inside. Man I miss vinyl covers. I didn't really latch on to Tull until Benefit. From there on, brilliant. This is their second album, good but not great for me. Two great tracks in A New Day Yesterday and my favorite, We Used To Know. One instrumental, Bouree, that I can't make up any lyrics to, so all I can do is tap my foot to some cool music and picture Anderson with some cool moves. Didn't know that was a reworking of a Bach composition. Martin Barre replaces Mick Abrahams on lead guitar. A welcome addition who would become a mainstay for Tulls duration. This album was a #1 in the U.K. and #20 in the states. For me the best was yet to come. Tull has always been one of my favorites of the 70's. Interesting 1969 Bell Telephone ad at the end of the live clip of Bouree. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Bouree Best Track - We Used To Know Whenever I get to feel this way, try to find new words to say, I think about the bad old days we used to know. Nights of winter turn me cold -- fears of dying, getting old. We ran the race and the race was won by running slowly. Could be soon we'll cease to sound, slowly upstairs, faster down. Then to revisit stony grounds, we used to know. Remembering mornings, shillings spent, made no sense to leave the bed. The bad old days they came and went giving way to fruitful years. Saving up the birds in hand while in the bush the others land. Take what we can before the man says it's time to go. Each to his own way I'll go mine. Best of luck with what you find. But for your own sake remember times we used to know. 1) A New Day Yesterday *** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hm0XT2cqzLI 2) Jeffrey Goes To Leicester Square ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gyD_uQ9IXM 3) Bouree * live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5_hZV9U4aA 4) Back To The Family ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRLYOFRK_rA 5) Look Into The Sun ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jG6wEXSCUY 6) Nothing Is Easy ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoSOuYNNXjU 7) Fat Man ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IYRgQ9tYSg 8) We Used To Know *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sJA_VF5c7U 9) Reasons For Waiting ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnuCo6jAgz0 10) For A Thousand Mothers ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OpQZJwC9fM 3's - 2 2's - 7 1's - 1 Grade - 2.1 so many albums, so little time[/QUOTE I would say that this is one of my favourite Jethro Tull albums (unique band Tull) What Are You Listening To? - Mrrusty1 - 10-05-2012 Jerome Wrote:For me Led Zep were always better live. I prefer all the live versions from 'The Song Remains The Same' to any of the pre-recorded versions. Yes, even Stairway to Heaven too!Since ive been loving you was great live on their 1972 live album What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 11-05-2012 from my library (vinyl) If I could only appreciate instrumental music (other than jazz/classical), I'm sure this would be a good album for me. With seven of the nine tracks being that, I'm out of the loop. Probably one of my few purchases because of the label. I had just discovered Rounder Records. A home for obscure or up and coming folk/country artists at the time. Arlen falls in neither of those categories, so I must have heard something. Arlen's more of a blues/rock guy. The two tracks that do have vocals are pretty good, but they are not Arlen. Some female, Janet Schram, that I never heard of again. An original plus a cover of Rocket 88. Two other instrumental covers of Ghoat Riders In The Sky and Sam Cooke's A Change Is Gonna Come. A great song like that one reduced to an instrumetal kind of defeats the purpose. Should be reserved for elevators and I'm not on one. Arlen had some respect, performing with artists such as Dylan, Entwistle, Prine, Wakeman and Paul Simon. Never hit the big time but is still recording plus has done a lot of instructional videos and teaching of the art. I'm sure his respect is well deserved, just not by this novice. I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - A Change Is Gonna Come Best Track - Dreams Of Mexico 1) Ghost Riders In The Sky * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tv75G41PBFo 2) A Change Is Gonna Come * 3) Rooster * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vL_eZ8yiJcw 4) Dreams Of Mexico ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gC7pfzZcMQ 5) A Fool Like Me * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Fr9_BCRBBg 6) Rocket 88 ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GmuvLOIVqs 7) Landslide * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ypd2yyqxjd0 8) Farther Along * audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOVl5QntRb0 9) Laughing At The Blues * 3's - 0 2's - 2 1's - 7 Grade - 1.2 so many albums, so little time What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 11-05-2012 The Beatles - Sgt.
