my "singles" collection - CRAZY-HORSE - 05-10-2013 DURAN DURAN "rio" b/w "the chauffeur" 1982 title track off their second album... just sounds like 'duran duran', very little development in their sound across the albums in general... only difference here is that i actually like the "b" side track also, there is a video for that track also, so im figuring the Chauffeur was probably released as an "a" side somewhere and at some point??? not sure why this didnt sell very well here as these guys were huge, so a chart placing of #60 seems very strange indeed! "b" side is not too bad neither....can always count on the longstanding guys to release quality "b" sides... single only made it to #27 here, would have thought it did better than that as it got a hell of a lot of airplay, both then and now! "a" side is a reasonably good cover of the Sam Cooke classic... "b" side is an ok band composed track, cant remember these guys ever getting much airplay so i guess i saw them on 'countdown'/'rage'/'mtv' or one of many music shows i used to watch then... single failed to chart here, probably because they were seen as a ub40 rip-off artist...? "b" side was also really bad, a re-recording of a very good song from his 'breating hearts' album from 1984...not sure is it was just an outtake/demo or what really, but its a lame version of that album track... single only got to #22 here, but IMO that was generous! "b" side isnt too bad neither... single just scraped into the top20 here peaking at #15... "b" side isnt much better neither, a real low point in his career IMO single failed to chart here! "video!" * http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50hvdIvDzbs video "sooner or later" * no link available |
