What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 30-12-2008

Pere Ubu - The Modern Dance

Late 70s post-punk which comes across like Dub Housing's strange predecessor.

The Dandy Warhols - ...Earth to The Dandy Warhols...

I'm quite partial to the Dandy's brand of melodic psychedelia. This 2008 effort isn't one of their best, but still good.

Have a Nice Life - Bloodhail from Deathconsciousness [Enemies List Home Recordings, 2008]

This album is being called "album of the year" by some despite being a little hard to find. I believe it's only available on CD-R. It's a double-album, it took six years to make, and it is very lo-fi. There are elements of shoegaze, drone, ambient, noise, etc. Comparisons to Sunn O))), the Cure, Joy Division, My Bloody Valentine.

The Fall - Imperial Wax Solvent

The Fall's latest studio effort. One of their better albums IMO.

Stafrænn Hákon - Afglapi from Í Ástandi Rjúpunnar [Resonant, 2004]

Hakon hails from Iceland. His music sounds like it too. It makes an excellent soundtrack to the far north.

The Bronx - The Bronx 3

- not bad

Howard Devoto - Jerky Versions of The Dream

'83 solo album by ex-early-Buzzcock, & Magazine mainman. This is a frothier album than his work with Magazine, but still packs a punch.

In my view, Devoto never makes spectacular music, but his material is always interesting.

TV On The Radio - Dear Science

- it's all right, I suppose

Pere Ubu - New Picnic Time

Another early Pere Ubu record. Pretty much as odd as the recent two I've listened to.

Not a song, I'm afraid, but an album which was a Crimbo prezzie from Mrs Tiggi:

Sex Pistols - Spunk

This was originally a bootleg release of early Pistols studio sessions. It was available before Never Mind... & so was their first available album.
All recordings feature the original lineup with Glen Matlock. They lack the polish of Never Mind... but are good quality recordings.

I can remember the class punks at school getting excited over this bootleg over 30 years ago. Now officially available on CD, I've managed to hear it for the first time.

Highly enjoyable.
