2003 WARREN ZEVON
Theres more to Warren than "werewolves of London"....
I have five albums and I could name probably ten-plus tracks better than that one....
highly underrated and under appreciated during his lifetime....
oh yeh....
it was lung cancer that eventually took him caused by breathing in asbestos as a child whilst playing in the attic of his parents house....

Keith Moon died on this day in 1978 from overdosing on a prescription drug that was intended to help treat the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal, provided one had actually withdrawn from it, which it appears Mr Moon had not. Hoteliers across the globe breathed a collective sigh of relief (he had a predilection for blowing up toilets, along with other costly acts of mayhem and destruction).

Despite a personnel list that reads like a who’s who of rock ’n roll royalty, his only solo album went down like a lead zeppelin - an expression he once used in front of Jimmy Page, which clearly led to greater things! His rendition of Brian Wilson’s “Don’t Worry Baby” is positively cringe-worthy; apparently Wilson wept when he heard it.

He may be renowned as a great, if sometimes unorthodox drummer, but he should’ve left the vocals well alone! He played drums on only three tracks, leaving the rest up to Ringo and others. For anyone who may be morbidly fascinated …. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DW98jKsnzBc (and conversely – Entwistle’s debut solo, Smash Your Head Against the Wall, which sounds as though it ought to be dreadful, isn’t. Moon does percussion on that one.)

Fortunately, there was plenty of brilliance to offset one ill-advised release ….

Can't remember who said this but someone once stated that when Keith cried they could not tell whether the tears were real or whether it was just the booze overflowing out of his eyes. Mr Moon was an enigma. Always will be.

Another thing with Keith...
He kept 'in time' on drums with Pete's guitar and not the bass player which
is the standard procedure for drummers which would explain his unique apparent crazy style....

There's a story in Pete's autobiography that whilst on tour in the US in the early '70s Keith was thrown out of the hotel because of his behaviour so he went out to the carpark with the keys to one of the tour vehicles and drove the car through the plate glass windows of the hotel and told the staff that if he couldn't sleep in his room he'd sleep in his car(in the foyer)....LMAO....
He was subsequently banned from Holiday Inn motels in the US for life!

Pete also says that through the 60s/70s that the members of The Who never made any money because they had to pay for damage ao often in hotels because of what he and Keith did whilst on tour..
