What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 01-07-2013 Band Members for this release Wayne Coyne - Guitar, Vocals Steven Drozd - Drums, Vocals Michael Ivins - Bass Ronald Jones - Guitar Artist Recording History studio albums - 15 compilation albums - 10 ep's - 18 singles - 15 from my library (cd) ![]() Didn't know this band had that many albums. I've got two of them and based on this one I'm out other than the budget bin. This is the bands sixth album. Love the leadoff song and that was it. Three that don't cut it. This was the bands first album to chart here, at #108. A minor hit with She Don't Use Jelly, at #55. The replacement of 2 band members with Drozd and Jones was the notable difference in the bands sound. Not a bad album, but not real good either. Allmusic sure likes it though. Curious if the next one will fare better. btw, they have a new one on the way. King And Lionheart and Little Talks both made it to #1 in their home country and also made top10 here,top20 Stateside and the UK, and Mountain Sound which doesnt appear to have been released in Iceland but still made top30 here and in NZ... all up, a good album with lovely melodies and sounds... I LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: slow and steady best track: dirty paws tracks: 1. dirty paws *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgn8Eoh9aSY audio 2. king and lionheart ** 3. mountain sound ** 4. slow and steady * 5. from finner ** 6. little talks ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWRf09i6Z_s live 7. six weeks ** 8. love love love ** 9. your bones ** 10.sloom ** 11.lakehouse ** 12.yellow light ** 3s=1 2s=10 1s=1 rating: 2.0 What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 02-07-2013 ![]() ALEX LLOYD "black the sun" cd, 1999 #9 AU Alex' debut set from 1999...i was walking past a record shop back in the day and this album was playing instore over the speakers, i went in and inquired as to what it was, listened to the whole thing under headphones and was blown away by its simplicity and dark lyrical content, i bought it there and then... Alex plays all instruments and co-produced it with ex-psychadelic Furs guitarist Ed Buller... album(in a lot of places) sounds very similar to Peter Gabriel, no let me refrase that....his vocals sound a lot like Peter Gabriel in places, same phrase structure and tones IMO. album ended up winning three ARIA's for 'breakthrough artist', 'album of the year' and 'best single' for "lucky star:, album went platinum out here, his follow up album "watching angels mend" went triple platinum, then he plateaued out, he is releasing his latest studio album later this year apparently(well, he's been saying that for a couple of years now so i wont hold my breath for that one!) all up, a very fine album from a very talented guy! hey Music Head, didnt i give you a copy of this one along with his best of set when i saw you??? I LOVE THIS ALBUM worst track: melting best track: something special tracks: 1. melting ** 2. momo ** 3. something special *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvL_38apqro vevo video 4. desert ** 5. snow *** 6. my way home *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_PXZo1CiII video 7. black the sun *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Os3hahvPJIw video 8. lucky star ** 9. what a year *** 10.faraway ** 11.aliens ** 12.gender ** 13.back seat clause ** 3s=5 2s=8 1s=0 rating: 2.4 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 02-07-2013 ^^ yes you did was not as impressed as you but thank you What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 02-07-2013 Never heard of Alex before CH ! The comparison to Gabriel is right on and I like the track Something Special !...thanks for introducing me to a new artist again ! ..that's what MD is all about ! What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 04-07-2013 ![]() THE BIRTHDAY PARTY "junkyard" cd,1981 never heard f these guys, guys?...and i wouldnt blame you if you hadnt, but their lead vocalist and principle writer was none other than "the prince of Goth" himself....Nick Cave! yes, this was Caves original band before The Bad Seeds... this is the group's second album, i also have their debut set "prayers on fire"(which i like)... this one is often regarded as their best album amongst Cave-ologists, but its not mine, i dont like it!(probably the only Cave album i own that i dont like!) i find the sounds on this one to be somewhat grungy mixed with a pairing of Public Image Ltd and Marilyn Manson, only Cave has a real deep bass tone to his vocal style. this album/style was so 'out there' when originally released that no-one took any notice of it, thus it didnt make the charts out here, but did manage to scrape into the lower reaches of the UK albums chart...it was after this album that Cave and Co relocated themselves to London where he has stayed ever since! the album still has the dark overtones that you'd expect of him, it just took him a few albums to hone his skills into what we know him to be now, all up, not a very good album IMO, but still, an important stepping stone to all things Gothic in the mind of Nick Cave! I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: kiss me black best track: blast off tracks: 1. blast off ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GliB0Z2EM2I audio 2. she's hit * 3. dead joe I ** 4. the dim locator * 5. hamlet ** 6. several sins ** 7. big jesus trash can ** 8. kiss me black * 9. gold blade ** 10.kewpie doll * 11.junkyard * 12.dead joe II ** 13.release the bits ** 3s=0 2s=8 1s=5 rating: 1.6 What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 04-07-2013 looks interesting CH ! Nothing I love here and about an even split for what I could pass. Just too out there for me, including the song titles. This is the bands seventh album. Says it is the last one with guitarist Jones, and the band sound took on quite a change for the next one, which I haven't heard. Had to be an improvement and the band is still around. Three singles off of this, none charting here but a little action in the UK. No charting for the album on either shore. Looks like allmusic loves it.
