LOU REED "rock 'n' roll animal" cd,1974.

Lou Reed, what can i say about Lou?....i simply do not like the majority of his material, including his Velvet Underground stuff...
but this album isnt too bad, its a 'live' set recorded in NYC in december of 1973, includes a couple of VU tracks.
i think the way he breather new life into some of these not so old tracks is pretty good, and as far as live albums go, this one is ok.
just so happens this album contains one of the few Reed tracks that i love in "white light/white heat", which again, i love the live version on offer here
the cd version contains two bonus tracks from the live show, but as they were not a part of the original album they are not scored here
cannot find the live version on youtube so no links posted here!!!!sorry !

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

worst track: heroin
best track: white light/white heat

tracks:

1. intro/sweet jane **

SHAKIN' STEVENS "give me your heart tonight" vinyl/cd, 1982. UK #3

shaky started off singing in his home country of Wales in the mid 1960s, and throughout the 1970s released a number of 1950s rock/rockabilly covers with his band The Sunsets, it wasnt until 1980 when he hit the bigtime in Europe/UK with his Rosemary Clooney cover "this ole house", from then he didnt spend any time out of the UK top40 singles charts for the next 5yrs, scoring an impressive 30 hits, most of which made the top 10 including quite afew #1's...
this one is his third album from that period and probably my favourite one at that.
of the thirteen tracks there are four covers on here...
Doris Day's "que sera sera" which went to #2 in the UK as part of his "blue christmas" ep.
Jackie Wilson's "i'll be satisfied" which made it to #10 in the UK.
Wynona Carr's "boppity bop" and
a cover of an obscure Del Shannon b-side in "you never talked about me"
the songs here have an overall feel of Jackie Wilson,Little Richard and Fats Domino about them and theres nothing wrong with that as they are done very well indeed., the two i mentioned above plus "oh julie"(#1 UK and #1 AU), "shirley"(#6 UK) and the title track which only made it to #11 in the UK.
IMO Shakin' Stevens was the genuine article, he had the moves, the looks and the vocals to carry off the 1950s material and thus brought 1950s rock to a new generation of teenagers...which is a ggod thing!

A gift from a mate. Can't believe how popular this guy was down under. Both with Cold Chisel (14 albums) and as a solo artist (13 albums, 9 #1's). Barely heard of here in the states. This compilation album covers the hits from those solo albums from '84 to '95. Six more solo albums since this release, the last in 2010. Some nice guest appearances over the years, INXS, Tina Turner, Mick Fleetwood, Kim Carnes, Neal Schon, Randy Jackson, Brian Setzer. Guess Jimmy knew some people. When I was listening to the Cold Chisel album a few weeks back, I was trying to think of who Jimmy's voice reminded me of. The appearance of Journey's Neal Schon on here nailed it, dead ringer. Side note, didn't know Neal was a member of Santana prior to Journey. That's why I love doing this. I always learn something. Three love tracks on the album along with three I do not like, evens it out to a moderate like. Of curse the album hit #1 in Australia, and it did hit the charts here at #74.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Ride The Night Away

Best Track - Stone Cold

When I get home I found you sleeping
I said the words you know are true
And I'm stoned, stone cold in love with you

You don't have to turn the light on
Ain't had more than just a few
And I'm stoned, I'm stone cold in love with you
You don't have to wonder why now
Look at all the things you've been to me
I'll build my whole life on the sweet foundation
You've given, baby you know what I mean

I left my friends back in the poolroom
They'll still be drowning out the blues
I'm stoned, I'm stone cold in love with you

You don't have to wonder why
Look at all the things you've been
My heart lies on the sweet foundation
You'v given, baby you know what I mean

I see your face below the window
I see the moonlight coming through
And I'm stoned, I'm stone cold in love with you
Yes I'm stoned, I'm stone cold in love with you
