UB-40 & CHRISSIE HYNDE "breakfast in bed" b/w "instrumental version" 1988
i guess with the success of their worldwide smash hit "i got you babe" it was inevitable they would do a sequel...
they did, this is it, and its not as good as the other one, but still okay...
again, ive been ripped off with an instrumental version on the "b" side!
single only got to #44 here...

BRUCE FOXTON "this is the way" b/w "sign of the times" 1983
Bruce's second solo single...its not great but it is pretty darn good IMO, not sure if it got released here or not as i bought it on import from the UK,
i guess you would call this one a ballad maybe???
"b" side is pretty good also...love the 'sax' work on it...

THE STYLE COUNCIL "the lodgers-ep" 1986
a two disc set from TSC, lead-off track 'the lodgers' is a re-recording of the song on 'our favourite shop' album,a better version than the album version...
the other tracks,"b" side of disc one contains live versions of their 1984 double-A sided hit "youre the best thing" and "bog boss groove"...never liked the latter track live or studio, love the studio of "best thing",like the live version...
disc two contains the original studio versions of previous hits "youre the best thing" and "long hot summer"...love both those tracks...
single failed to chart here, but made the top10 in the UK

CURTIS MAYFIELD "move on up" b/w "beautiful brother of mine" and "give it up" 1971
i discovered Curtis after hearing The Jam's cover from 1982...loved their version and this one...
"b" side tracks follow the usual soulful formula of Mayfield...i guess you either love or loathe him, personally i love the man!
single failed to chart here!

JONA LEWIE "stop the cavalry" b/w "laughing tonight" 1980
i posted one of his other singles the other day, this is the second of three i know i own...
this one centres on troops in the trenches in WWII, Macca released a similar track a couple of years later called "pipes of peace",whose video centred around the Normandy Trenches of WWI, Macca could have done this one also, its right up his alley!
this one was a huge christmas #1 in the UK in 1980...love the "a" side..."b" side is a big piece of crap!
single made it to #2 here back in the day

BILL MEDLEY & JENNIFER WARNES "ive had the time of my life" b/w "love is strange" 1987
pretty hard to knock the voice of Medley or knock the material he sings....and this is no exception, superb song IMO....
"b" side is the original version of "love is strange" by Mickey & Sylvia from the mid 1950s...
not a big fan of 'love is strange' most times, but i do like ths version...
pretty sure both tracks come from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack
single did get to #1 here and rightfully so!

LIMAHL "never ending story" b/w "ivory tower" 1984
ex-Kajagoogoo lead vocalist starts his not so successful solo career with the theme song from the movie from the same name...
typical mid 1980s synthpop...and what is it with the hair???, oh yeh, that was fashionable then!
"b" side is an instrumental from the ovie also, perfromed by instrumentalist Giorgio Morodo...dont like that one, too synth orientated for my liking!
single reached a healthy #6 here, its not a bad song but im sure the success of the movie helped sales figures!
