Only song I love by Fats is Blueberry Hill. Makes me wonder if that will show up later. This one was Fats's first crossover hit after having some r&b success all the way back to 1949. The song title is not a mistake. Even though the lyrics are "ain't that a shame", it was titled as stated. When it was later covered by Pat Boone, the title was changed. Pat actually wanted to change change the title and lyrics to Isn't That A Shame, but was overruled. This is the first song John Lennn learned to play and he recorded it for his Rock 'n' Roll album. Also a nice cover by Cheap Trick in 1979. This is a straight forward rock n roll 50s classic ...I love it ! MH knows i love Fats Domino, so this one and any others that may get in the list get my thumbs up...awesome guy IMO, along with Buddy,Elvis,Chuck and Little Richard, his music summed up 1950s r&r IMO Looking Back At Some Classics - Music Head - 11-12-2012 #437 - Clash - White Man In Hammersmith Palais - 1979 running recap for me - 3's=32, 2's=24, 1's=8 this one - ** from the album: The Clash Written by Mick Jones, Joe Strummer Produced by Clash Chart action: #32 UK the players: Joe Strummer – lead vocals, rhythm guitar Mick Jones – lead guitar, vocals Paul Simonon – bass guitar Topper Headon – drums From their debut album. I have it but not that familiar with the song. They didn't really break here until London Calling. That's no excuse if I have it. Recorded for the Give 'Em Enough Rope album in the UK, but the boat was slow to reach the US with the debut, so it was on that album here. Not sure if it was released as a single here, if so it didnt chart. America was slow to latch onto the punk/reggae scene. Lyrics Midnight to six man For the first time from Jamaica Dillinger and Leroy Smart Delroy Wilson, your cool operator Ken Boothe for UK pop reggae With backing bands sound systems And if they've got anything to say There's many black ears here to listen But it was Four Tops all night with encores from stage right Charging from the bass knives to the treble But onstage they ain't got no roots rock rebel Onstage they ain't got no...roots rock rebel Dress back jump back this is a bluebeat attack 'Cos it won't get you anywhere Fooling with your guns The British Army is waiting out there An' it weighs fifteen hundred tons White youth, black youth Better find another solution Why not phone up Robin Hood And ask him for some wealth distribution Punk rockers in the UK They won't notice anyway They're all too busy fighting For a good place under the lighting The new groups are not concerned With what there is to be learned They got Burton suits, ha you think it's funny Turning rebellion into money All over people changing their votes Along with their overcoats If Adolf Hitler flew in today They'd send a limousine anyway I'm the all night drug-prowling wolf Who looks so sick in the sun I'm the white man in the Palais Just lookin' for fun I'm only Looking for fun Looking Back At Some Classics - CRAZY-HORSE - 12-12-2012 from their US debut version maybe, but not on the UK/Australian version....i hate it when artists do that... that song would definately not fit with the sound of the debut set for me... still, one of the few 'early' Clash tracks that i am not keen on, but still, its good to see them in the list Looking Back At Some Classics - TraceNspace - 12-12-2012 Two thumbs up for Fats Looking Back At Some Classics - Music Head - 12-12-2012 #436 - Solomon Burke - Everybody Needs Somebody To Love - 1964 running recap for me - 3's=32, 2's=25, 1's=8 this one - ** from the album: various compilations Written by Solomon Burke, Bert Berns, Jerry Wexler Produced by Bert Berns Chart action: #58 US the players: Solomon Burke – vocal other people playing things Don't think I was familiar with this until the Stones covered it in '65 on their second album. Another good cover by Wilson Picket in '66, which bested this one, going to #29 here. Of course Mr. Burke gets the credit. He claims the song is all his and was talked into sharing writing credit after Berns and Wexler expressed doubt that the song could be a hit. Wexler disputes that story. Referred to as the most over looked soul singers of the 60's, only because he lacked the chart topping success of his peers. Mr Burke passed away in 2010, and has a Grammy and an induction into the R&R Hall Of Fame to his credit. He may have been over looked in his prime, but he is well respected now. Lyrics Everybody needs somebody Everybody needs somebody to love (someone to love) Sweetheart to miss (sweetheart to miss) Sugar to kiss (sugar to kiss) I need you you you I need you you you I need you you you in the morning I need you you you when my soul's on fire Sometimes I feel I feel a little sad inside When my baby mistreats me I never never never have a place to hide I need you Sometimes I feel I feel a little sad inside When my baby mistreats me I never never never have a place to hide I need you you you I need you you you I need you you you I need you you you I need you You know people when you do find that somebody Hold that woman, hold that man Love him, hold him, squeeze her, please her, hold her Squeeze and please that person, give 'em all your love Signify your feelings with every gentle caress Because it's so important to have that special somebody To hold, kiss, miss, squeeze and please Everybody needs somebody Everybody needs somebody to love Someone to love Sweetheart to miss Sugar to kiss I need you you you I need you you you I need you you you Looking Back At Some Classics - CRAZY-HORSE - 13-12-2012 yep "**" from me also, never a huge fan of Soloman like i am Wilson Pickett or Otis. Looking Back At Some Classics - Music Head - 13-12-2012 #435 - U2 - New Years Day - 1983 running recap for me - 3's=33, 2's=25, 1's=8 this one - *** from the album: War Written by U2 Produced by Steve Lillywhite Chart action: #53 US, #10 UK the players: Bono – lead vocal The Edge – guitar Adam Clayton – bass Larry Mullen Jr. – drums Not as big a fan of the group as most, but I'll give them this one. The bass line sucks me in. Their first UK hit and the first to chart in the US. Inspired by the Polish solidarity movement. From their third album and the first to be considered highly political. Bono had found his niche. Lyrics Yeah... All is quiet on New Year's Day A world in white gets underway I want to be with you Be with you night and day Nothing changes on New Year's Day On New Year's Day I will be with you again I will be with you again Under a blood red sky A crowd has gathered in black and white Arms entwined, the chosen few The newspapers says, says Say it's true it's true... And we can break through Though torn in two We can be one I...I will begin again I...I will begin again Oh... Maybe the time is right Oh...maybe tonight... I will be with you again I will be with you again And so we're told this is the golden age And gold is the reason for the wars we wage Though I want to be with you Be with you night and day Nothing changes On New Year's Day |
