Graham Gouldman was born on this day in Lancashire, England. A prolific and accomplished songwriter, he worked hard penning hit songs for a whole bunch of bands (he wrote “For Your Love” for the Yardbirds) before forming 10cc with three fellow musos; he’s been with 10cc through all its incarnations, right up to the present time.

Gouldman wrote some of 10cc’s their best known songs – the dreamy “I’m Not In Love” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_cVCtw7iLA, “Dreadlock Holiday” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbdCvzF4qqw, “The Things We Do For Love” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-6PnsnBpQE, “Art For Art’s Sake” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qpVyMxA0jo, "Feel the Benefit" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HcxhcSlTc4,

and “I’m Mandy, Fly Me”

Steve Knight was born on this day in 1935. He was recruited as all things keys related to the fairly short-lived yet successful rock band, Mountain. They have been cited as heavily influential in the rock kingdom and first became noticed when they appeared at ‘Woodstock’, which coincidentally, was Knight’s home town. http://www.mountainrockband.com/history.html

After leaving Mountain, he returned to improvisational jazz being highly competent on a range of instruments - tuba, trombone, piano and organ although primarily a bassist. During the 90's, he returned to Woodstock and sat as a councilman there for a couple of terms. He died in 2013 at the age of 77.

This track was untitled when Mountain played it at Woodstock, which was also only their fourth gig. They named it later, “For Yasgur’s Farm”, and it was released on their debut album Climbing! which achieved gold status ...

Want some other versions of the great song? : http://www.music-discussion.com/showthread.php/15929-championing-the-unheralded-an-ongoing-thread/page18 << Post # 90
What I like most is the level of male responsibility expressed--"...if your child needs a daddy, I can help...". Don't know many other songs on this theme.
BTW that acoustic version was on a TV show by this guy (Mr. Fein has had an interesting life/career and written about it): http://www.allmusic.com/artist/art-fein-mn0001221999/biography
