What Are You Listening To? - mtthwibrahim - 13-09-2011

Anyways, I'm listening to A Tribe Called Quest's "Midnight Marauders". From what I've heard so far, it's production is alot less sparce than the masterpiece "The Low-End Theory". The thing I loved about that album smooth and cool it was, so I can't get into this one as much. The beats are amazing, still, and the MC's flow is top-notch, and lyrically, while not quite as strong as "The Low-End Theory", the rhymes are still pretty strong

On the laptop.

Their second album, from 1988.

Famous for bringing Gangsta Rap to the masses, and offending many along the way (especially police-persons...).

I fully expected not to like this, but although the rhymes about sexing their bitches up are truly wince-worthy, there's some decent material here, and their humour helps a great deal.

This just about scrapes onto the lower levels of the Buy List.

AllMusic 5/5 stars.

easily the most overrated hip hop lp. If you want to get into the genre, get 36 Chambers by Wu Tang Clan or Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest

Listened to 36 Chambers a while back, and it annoyed the hell out of me...

Trying to step out of my usual genres today. I like Outkast or more specifically, I like Andre. The guy just has style.

My favorite track:

i-Pod listening in the garden this PM.

A decent enough career retrospective for JB, although some of the latter tracks clunk a little.

Righteous grooves from one of the more important 20th century singers.

Take it to the bridge, James...

Not scored by AllMusic.
